Self adjusting wing

Hi

Are self adjusting wings legal as an aero device ?

Set up properly they can be constant down force devices.

I can not find that they are illegal in the CCR.

They are used in the roundie round world.

Thanks Charlie

I would think an active system could have safety issues (ie a failure in a servo could cause a catostrophic change in handling), but seems to be legal now

I think a better solution is a wing wicker that is flexible. In other words, using a very thin aluminum, it would bend back slightly over say 100mph. This would be great since there are very few corners requiring speeds that high, and could free a little drag on the long straights (vir, rd atl)

Hi

This is not an active wing - it is passive - just an air spring in the back to keep it more or less constant down force. I agree totally no active stuff for me.

It pivots at the front with an air spring at the rear. It is pretty much standard stuff with the roundie round guys.

They are JSP Mecha parts:

Lots of people stock them.

Here is one off Ebay - I got mine for less on Ebay last week.

There may different air springs available on the web to fine tune the performance.

let us know how it looks. From the photos, this wing design (not the mount) looks more like a flat-plane/wedge than an aerofoil design. An Aerofoil will give the same downforce as a wedge, with less than HALF of the drag, so just keep that in mind....An optimized aerofoil in a fixed position MAY give more downforce/less drag than this movable wing IF that is the case.

I'm intrigued to hear more.
