AJBerb Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I was looking through the Iowa Speedway registration and did not see a class option for 944 Cup. Will this class be ran at this race or will I have to register for GTS? If the turn out for 944 Cup is going to me low, I would rather race in GTS with more cars. At least I hope there will be more cars. I have just recently converted my PCA 'I' car to 944 Cup with plans to primarily race with NASA. I guess a follow up question is if I will be better off racing in GTS in the Midwest for most of the season until Nationals. Any thoughts? Thanks, Quote
944 cup Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'll have the 944 Cup added to the registration choices for Iowa Speedway. All other events for the MidWest already include the 944 Cup. Very difficult to realistically project the number of cars that will be registered for the class throughout the year in the MidWest. You could register for the 944 Cup class, and when u get to the track, make a final decision which class u want to race in. A class switch wont cost u anything and can be done in a few minutes. Please let me know if I can any any other questions. Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 However, If you really want to run 944 cup (944 spec or any other class) it is smart to test the waters in that class. Sure GTS may have more cars now, but there maybe 2-3 other guys in GTS that would rather run 944 cup, but have not done it because there were no cars. It is a very "build it and they will come" attitude. Every place 944 spec has taken off it has needed at least one guy to be "The first". They run in 944 spec as the only car and then by doing that attract more. If they ran as some other class then the spotlight is just not there. Something to consider. Quote

AJBerb Posted March 15, 2007 Author Posted March 15, 2007 I just registered in 944 Cup at Iowa. Hopefully I won't be the only one. Quote
944 cup Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Andy: We're workin' hard to provide you some competition. Check back with me closer to the event, and I'll give u an update. Quote
jaje Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I may next year turn in the ITA Civic I have for a 944 Cup car. I'm looking for some closer competition to Kansas (besides doing PCA events). Quote

Sterling Doc Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I just registered in 944 Cup at Iowa. Hopefully I won't be the only one. I be in comp school at Iowa in my spec 944. I will be running spec 944 after that. What type of 944 are you running? Quote
AJBerb Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 Doc, I have an 83 944 built to PCA I spec. I've ran mostly PCA (w/ some SCCA and Midwestern Council) for the past two years. This year I am running mostly NASA with a couple PCA races. I really liked the idea that I can put the car on a 300+ pound diet to hit the 2650 weight limit. http://www.co-opracing.com I've already enticed someone from work to buy an 'I' car. He is getting his license through the SCCA and will probably be racing with NASA a bit. Especially since there is a pretty large following from the Peoria, IL area. As far as Spec 944s go, I've actually considered building one. I basicly have all the parts I need except for the car and some safety stuff. It would be a rental car or a "backup" car. Or just because collecting cars is an addiction. Heck, I haven't even raced with NASA yet. My experiences this year will determine what I do next year. I am expecting a fun and successful year, but at this point I am keeping my options open. BTW Doc, are you planning on running any PCA races? Quote
Sterling Doc Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 After several years of dabbling with several sanctioning bodies and clubs, I found my racing"home" with NASA last year. This year I think I'm going to concentrate on NASA evets, but I wouldn't rule out running with the PCA at some point Quote
AJBerb Posted March 17, 2007 Author Posted March 17, 2007 I'll be racing at Mid Ohio and Road America. If you are at either one, look me up. I'll be with Eurosport Racing. I'll probably make some other races crewing for Eurosport Racing, so stop by either way. I'm sure I'll run into you at a NASA event at one time or another anyway. Quote
