roberth944
I was reading all of the posts about the rule changes to spec class and thought, why don't these guys just race 944cup? I know out here in So Cal we really don't have a cup class but why not? Why don't all of the guys who like to tinker and tweek things on their cars just start signing up as cup cars? The class wil grow quickly if people know others are running in it. I know I was pretty pissed when I found out about the rule changes. I'm building a spec car now and so is my buddy and we both all ready have illegal parts. We don't even have racing licences yet. I'm just afraid that every year the rules will get adjusted again without telling anyone and again tick everyone off! It seems as though there are lots of 944 racers out there, lets just race and quit bitching. Spec or Cup ! Just my thoughts, I'll be out there as soon as the license is mine and the car is done. Chuck T.
I think you are right on Rob ! If anyone has a 944 bring it out We have a place for it to race ! 944-challenge or GTS or SU . I raced in PTB with a 944 Turbo last month and had a great time ! Chuck
944 cup
Hey Rob: Cup or Super Cup class has not done anything out your way because we need to find a suitable person ready to commit to take on the Director position to organize and oversee the classes. Maybe some day.
944-Spec#94
The 944 spec rules will not be changing for a long time. The changes we saw this year were the first major rule reduction since we started things in 2002-2003 time frame. The reason for the change was to attempt to ensure 944 spec remained true to the spec ideal that is equal cars using equal parts. With the exception of a few in Southern California these changes have been well recived inspite of the need of some drivers to adjust their cars. Just like the requirement for a spec tire cause grief with some in Jan 2003, years later we look at the spec tire rule and consider it a very valuable part of 944 spec. It helps the class conform to the "equal performance at a low cost" ideal the series was based on. 944 cup rules are more open and allow for more tinkering on the cars. In general this means more room to spend money and more room to have the cars be the deciding factor rather than the driver. However a spec series with its tight control on what you can and can't do is not for everyone so it is nice to have choice. I would like to retiterate one point.... 944 spec rules will not be changing again for a long time. Not only is this a desire of all the directors, but it is actually written in the rules. No changes for 3 years at a minimum.
Tim Comeau
Robert, The rules changes were needed because some cars had MUCH more HP and torque than others, which goes directly against the EQUAL CARS concept of 944 spec. We welcome any 944 that will be raced in the NASA family. Run it in 944 spec or 944 Cup in SoCal. The guys with more modified cars know this already.
