Guest
I've been instructing for NASA for awhile, and bought a car over the winter. I'd like to register it w/ NASA and race w/ you guys. It is a 1998 Firebird w/ the LS1. It was registered in SCCA as ITE. I think the specs on it are 400hp and 3200#. Should it be in CMC 2 or AI or AIX? 99cobra2881
I have an ITE Mustang, the HP levels it has are similar to what you posted. Im going to be running in AIX.
racercosmo
If the 400 hp is BHP, then you should come out around 350ish at the wheels. Is the 3200# with or without a driver? If it is without, then you should have no problem in AI. If it's with, then maybe some extra weight and/or a restrictor will get you into specs. King Matt
Depending on the level of prep on the chassis and suspension, it might be a candidate for CMC-2 if it has not been too extensively modified away from stock. You would probably need to detune the engine, but that may be easier and cheaper than building up to AI or AIX levels of prep. It might end up being a good fit for AI too, but I think you will find that AIX is not a very fun place to be if ALL you have is an AIX engine. Raybob9289
Your car is right about were a good AI LS1 4th gen should be. You should get with Mike Patterson because he has a Camaro version of your car. If you were to gut the car down you might need a Restricter plate and/or add some balast. My 96 LT1 is makin 430 at the crank and 352 at the RW's. This winter I put it on the Jenny Craig work out plan and then had to add 75lbs back in balast. Long story short, put an AI on the side and Boogedy, Boogedy, lets go racin !!!!!
Guest
Thanks guys. I would rather add ballast than detune or run a restrictor. That doesn't seem right. I want to go as fast as the car will go. It doesn't matter at this point if everyone is passing me. I'll probably end up in AI. I'm going to race @ Summit Point in 2 weeks w/ SCCA. Some of the guys race in both series, so I'll continue to ask around.
Renntag
I think you will be bast fit for AI fwiw, given the power your car already makes. I instruct at summit frequently and might see you in the Paddock at the SCCA race. What colour/number is your car? Best of luck.
Guest
Colin, It looks like we both have yellow cars. Mine has a big red stripe down the middle. I'll see you on the 28th. How early do I have to get there to get a spot on the pavement?
Renntag
The paddock is coordinated by Mike Collins and groups are equally given assigned sections of the paddock. To get a spot to your liking you need to get there early and then see what section is available to you. This was the only way to keep the peace.
