Red Tornado
When the new model comes out I think I will take the gamble and go for it to run in AI. We will likely be opening a speed shop in charlotte at some point so may be a good test car. Anyone else ready to make a jump when they arrive?? Renntag
I am very excited to see this happen and will be watching closely. Awesome. Best of luck on both fronts.
Raybob9289
I have tried to Contact Dan Bodene at Dodge Motorsports about the new Challenger. He hasn't got back to me yet, all I got was his out of office reply. I am in for a Challenger, if Dodge will help alittle with a deal on the full car or a BIW and list of parts. I have about givin up on the General. If they ever get the Camaro on the assembly line it will be 2015 and by then I'll have lost interest. BTW, My challenger will be Sublime. Renntag
Excellent. Well I am looking forward to seeing it out on track. Please post back with updates. Good luck.
pederb
Something I would think would good and interesting would be a listing on who to contact at the different manufactures for help like this.
Renntag
I imagine that those people are already inundated with requests and proposals.
pederb
we can't give up just because of that
Raybob9289
I am not asking Dodge for anything special but boostin me up the waiting list a little. I'll pay for the car and do all the work in my shop. If they don't wanna sell me a Challenger then they can pound sand and I'll just move my Camaro up to LS2 status. Red Tornado
Dodge has been probably the best overall factory support for grassroots racing over the past decade or so it seems. The general I don't have much hope with but you never know. My brother currently works at a dodge dealership and has one of the quickest SRT-4's in the country so we have something to build from. mwilson7
You might be VERY surprised on how heavy the Challenger will come in at in AI legal trim.......
Jeff F
Both of those cars will be IRS, so until they are ruled an "allowed" IRS, they aren't legal for the class.

Jeff, Everthing I have seen and heard indicates the Challenger will be a Solid Rear Axle. I also beleive, in a conversation I had with John Lindsey the Challenger is in. The new Camaro if it ever comes in my opinion should be in also since its rear is based on the same Holden design as the Goat. You might be VERY surprised on how heavy the Challenger will come in at in AI legal trim........ The Challenger with a 400HP 5.7 litre hemi could'nt be any chubbier than a 4th gen Camaro!!! mwilson7
Being that the Challenger is based off the 300C platform and the volume is pretty low it would be VERY unlikely that Chrysler would engineer a solid axle for this vehicle. Word here in Detroit is that it IS IRS. With a 400rwhp engine you'd be fine with the weight.
V8cobra99
If the Challenger is IRS, as long as its OEM, like the 1999+ Mustang Cobra's, I am sure the AI directors will approve it for AI. Why not otherwise? Andy

King Matt
From what I heard and saw, there WAS a Corvette racing in AI last weekend at Mid-Ohio. He was just uninvited.
V8cobra99
Personally, I would like to see Vettes in AI. However, too many technical issues hinder them from meeting our rules. I believe, the original intention of AI is for "Coupe" type cars, the Vette is not a coupe. Nor does it have a backseat...etc.... But, if a Vette puts on 275/40/17 wheels and tires like us, and meets the HP & TQ rules, okay by me... Their aero packages will have a slight advantage at some tracks, but I dont think that is a huge issue..... Whether it is IRS or not is not a big issue, to me, as long as it is OEM. andy
Red Tornado
I thinka 4 seater is really what AI is all about. Vette's can be made to crush our cars trust me I used to run one.

Pat L.
I heard the new camaro will have a transaxle similar to the vette... will that pose a problem if that's true? Also, how would the powers at be feel about allowing solid rear axle swaps into IRS Camaros and Challengers? I've been eyeballing the new camaro, but info is fairly hard to come by. Raybob9289
Both of those cars will be IRS, so until they are ruled an "allowed" IRS, they aren't legal for the class. Jeff, I stand corrected. I had dinner with an old friend of mine who is the assistant sales manager at a Denver Dodge dealership. He told me the Challenger will be IRS. Its basically a shorter wheelbase Charger, 300, Magnum wagon. Sorry Dude, I am banished to the table of shame!
