Spec944#74
Joe, I'm signed up for racing Sat and Sun. I got my cool suit installed and took close to 100lb out of the car by taking out the second seat and the side windows and cranks. I autocrossed it yesterday with PCA and it felt really nice. Vince and Steve S. were out there too. Vince's car seems to be running well said he would be at PIR for the races. Steve is going to be out of town and won't be there. By the way sports fans, I managed to beat Vince by .5 seconds for the class win in the AARP Spec 944 division. I wanted to get some advice from you guys on a problem I am having m which is that I cannot get in and out of my car in my HANS and helmet, even though I have put in a removable steering wheel. I want to use the HANS but I'm really concerned about getting ut of the car if something happens, particularly fire. I am wondering if it would help to extend my roll cage side bars into the door to get a little more clearance, although I don't know where I could get that done. Any feedback would be appreciated. 944-Spec#94
Steve, Glad to see you will be making the 5/6 event. I too will be out of town. (Wife schedulded vacation long before the racing schedule came out ) As for getting in/out of the car with HANS. Have you tried lowering the seat (or removing the seat pad). The other is are you going feet or head first? (both in and out) You are right in NOT wearing it if you can figure how to get out of the car. 944 Swede
Joe, I forgot, is this part of the SoCal/AZ 4 race championship? Or do we even run that this year? Or is it by chance a crossover event where I would count points towards the SoCal Championship? Thanks,
944-Spec#94
Not part of the southwest championship series as Tim and I have not conversed about this in detail. As for aquiring So-Cal points you again would have to clear that with Tim. We would love to have you race out here with us points or not. Should still be blast. Due to the increasing heat I won't expect any track records, but racing should still be hard and fun.

nhamden
That is good news Hal, your car is the last of the battered cars from the race from hell for the 944's to get fixed. I am putting my motor back together this weekend and if it starts, we will back to were we started!!! I hope the nitrous won't blow this motor too!!! oops! never mind the last comment. Norm You have not been running nitrous in that car since we drilled the hole in your roll cage last year.
hhdinyuma
Norm, Glad to hear you will be there also. BTW...I have had much better success with the twin turbo setup in my car My only problem so far seems to be getting the car stopped in time when the green flag drops at the start of each race See ya in May. Spec944#74
I talked to Bruce Martz at the PCA event at FIR and he said he thought he might come out for the May race. If anyone knows him you ought to give him a call and encourge him. I will also try and get in touch with Dave Hauk and see if I can get him out there. Has anyone heard from Kent Buckley? 944 Swede
Thanks for the info Joe. Sorry you can't make it. What temperatures are expected that weekend. So you think it's too hot for track record times? Thank you,
944-Spec#94
Thanks for the info Joe. Sorry you can't make it. What temperatures are expected that weekend. So you think it's too hot for track record times? Thank you, The forcasters are predicting about 90 on May 4th. This weekend it will be 97F. In those temps 1:12's just don't happen. We lose some hp from the heat and track gets a little slick. Historically track records are set in November-March at PIR. Even April is bit warm. Most of us have been running that track long enough to know what kind of conditions it takes to run 1:12's at race time. Even so it should be blast. Steve, I will contact Bruce Martz, Darren & Jon. nhamden
My car is done!!!!!!!!! Started on the first fire!! 24 hours over Saturday and Sunday to build the motor, put it in the car and drive it. Not sure if that is good or not, only a couple of little snags. Any good suggestions on breaking in the motor, it is street legal and I plan to put a couple of hundred miles on it the week. Should I keep it under a certain RPM etc.. The weekend looks like hi 80's at this point. It's going to be the last comfortable weekend in PHX for awhile, so if any of you guys from Socal, CO, Norcal and any other place come out, at this point we have about 8 racers and a couple of DE'ers, with a couple of more cars we will have the option of our own green start and with a few more cars than that, we can have our own run group. My brother and I had our 944S motor completely rebuilt last summer from the block up and the main thing we were told about break-in was to keep the revs under 5k for the first couple of hundred miles. See you at PIR. Steve

nhamden
YEH!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made my day!!! There will be some good competition for us this weekend so put on your "Im driving my a_ _ off hat" it's show time!!! Let me know if you need help with anything on this end. BTW: There will be a dyno at the track to check Air to fuel and hp. I'm not sure how accurate my reading will be with 200 miles on the motor. My tail pipe is really black after the first 65 miles, maybe from the rings not being seeted. If not that, something in my AFM changed drastically since CS when I drove it last. What's up with Jim Richmond? Get him out here too,
