jon dawes
anybody ever run or seen a crown vic police package run HPDEs? just wondering. i've seen them with low miles for a good price if i were going to use it as a dedicated track car. of course they're HUGE monstrosities, but hey, I like em! kbrew8991
keeping brakes (overall weight) and front tires (understeer) on the car could be an issue
beerkat
Yes there is a group of guys that run the big Impalas and Crown Vics. I have run across them at some auto cross and other club events. They do very well for their size.
runningmole
Not quite the same, but my friend OT's his 85 LTD. HCI, 5spd, 5 lug w/ Cobra brakes, Maximum Motorsports panhard bar, subframes, Bilsteins....
jon dawes
i have to admit my ignorance again. i don't know what OT or HCI are. but i DO know what a 5 speed is! so this guy put a 5 speed manual in an LTD???
beerkat
The OT stand for On Track I think as for HCI your guess is as good as mine. The old police cars that I have seen on track have be modded heavily. Manual trans, big brakes, suspensions. Just like some of us do our cars. that part of what I like is to see what other people track. I started out with an F150 Lightning which weights in about like a big Crown Vic. jon dawes
HCI is a performance shop in CA, but it may also stand for Heads Cams and Injectors/Intake manifold. . . just my guess after some quick research. Could be completely wrong. and lemme get this right, you went from a supercharged truck to a vette? damn.
RACER-X
I've seen Mercury Marauders running on the track. Last year in AI there was a guy running a Caprice. Don't know if he's running this year or not.

runningmole
i have to admit my ignorance again. i don't know what OT or HCI are. but i DO know what a 5 speed is! so this guy put a 5 speed manual in an LTD??? Sorry, I was referring to Heads, Cam, Intake. Yes, he swapped in a 5spd, even had it "reffed" and it's completely smog legal.
runningmole
Couple pics of the LTD on the front straight of California Speedway. http://www.boostfiend.com/photos/2007/0317_hpde/ford/index.html
Eric J.
FWIW, the Bondurant school has sold off a few of their 'Cobra-Vics' and some of them have wound up being track cars. One of the locals here had one but I'm not sure whether he still does or not. They had brake ducts plust a monstrosity of a front anti-roll bar, V8 with a manual 5-spd. They're quite heavy, naturally, but it seemed to scoot around alright. Looked like it might be fun to drive.

runningmole
WOW. um, not sure what to say except someday I wanna drive the Cali Speedway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And i love that there's a T-bird, a Focus, an OLD LTD and a FORD GT all out there together. Fantastic. Where has this stuff been my whole life????? It's damn fun. I was revving 5200-5300 RPM in 5th gear toward the end of the front straight at CA Speedway(Cobra T-56 in my car) w/ 3.55s in the rear. My car only makes 310 rwhp, and I was on street tires. It's a blast, had a C6 ZO6 blow by me like I was in reverse. It was badass. Here's the rest of the pics http://www.boostfiend.com/photos/2007/0317_hpde/index.html
jon dawes
Jeesh, ONLY 310 rwhp??? you may as well have been on a tricycle that looks like more fun than should legally be possible. . .
