PPG4
I'm a newbie working my through HPDE with aspirations to run TT next year. I want to start upgrading my car in the most efficient way possible with respect to points. Tires and suspension are the first obvious upgrades. One of my options is the KW Variant 3 system. I was wondering if it would classify as a a 12 point addition (10 for dampers, 2 for springs), a 9 point addition (7 for the dampers, 2 for springs) or a 5 point addition ( 3 for non oem dampers and 2 for the springs). Here's a link for the description: http://www.kw-suspension.com/en/30_Products/20_KW_Coilovers/30_Variant_3/index.php Any information that anyone could provide would be appreciated. Cheers. heeltoer
Variant 3s have 2 ranges of adjustment and don't come with external reservoirs. so they are not +12 total SUSPENSION/BRAKES/CHASSIS: 1) Non-OEM shocks/struts/dampers with an external reservoir or more than two ranges of adjustment +10 (example: compression (bump) and both high & low rebound adjustments)(must still take points for springs below). Next rule takes into account the retail price of the dampers. It depends on what your definition of retail price is but the applicable rule in that dept doesn't fit either since these are usually less than 2500 anywhere you go. 2) Non-OEM shocks/struts/dampers with a retail price of greater than $600 per unit ($2400 total) or $750 each if sold only as a coilover with spring included ($3000 total). PPG4
First, thanks for the replies, your help is appreciated. I was pretty sure that was the case, but didn't want to make a stupid mistake when I could just ask and avoid a headache down the line. Cheers. PPG4
The photo in the link shows piggyback external reservoir coilovers, which you even bolded in your post. The Variant 3's that are shown are +7 points, and +2 more for the springs. There are some Variant 3's that do not have the piggyback external reservoirs which would be +3 shocks, so it will be model dependent. Well that's kind of a bummer, but not totally unexpected. I ordered the set today, so I guess I'll have to wait and see. Thanks.
