Round 3 of NorCal's 944SPEC CASH race series will be held at Infineon raceway June 30, July 1.

This date is one of the few weekends where NASA NorCal, SoCal, Arizona doesn't conflict and is a extended weekend for most because of July 4th.

For those that can't make it to the Nationals, make this your big race!

We have over a $1,000 in CASH, Toyo bucks, door prizes for every 944-Spec racer and each race entry is a raffle to a great year end prize table.

When I said at the beginning of the year that I'll have a year end prize for every 944-Spec that race in NorCal, I wasn't kidding. http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=12958

SoCal guys: Mikael, Jim Richmond, Jim Foxx, Tim, Tom Spargo, Memo, etc... What are guys waiting for?

AZ guys: I know the haul is longer but take your significant other with you and sell it as a mini vacation to San Francisco or the Sonoma/Napa Valley wine country for wine tasting, gourment restaurants and spas.

Rocky Mtn & Mid-West, I know you guys have a crossover event the same weekend. Have a great race!!!!

Friendly people, friendly 5th gear neutral (short or tall 5th gear, you wont' be able to use it) on a world class track with lots of elevation changes. What more can you ask? The CASH and prizes are just bonuses.

Ken, you can count me in. I will bring the Mothership up with the new trailer. I am really looking forward to the trip. Plan to get there early and tour some wine spots on the way to the track.

This will be my first drive at the track and can't wait. It looks like fun from the racing I have watched on TV and in person there.

Come on guys, make your plans.

What better way to celebrate the 4th of July weekend than racing on a cool track and winning a stars & stripes trophy?

Each of the eight trophies comes with a CASH prize:

1st $200

2nd $150

3rd $100

4th $50

5th $25 (medal)

In addition it looks like a full $800 Toyo bucks weekend.

Great looking trophies. The other regions have lots to learn from you, Ken

Question, I have a motor home but could not find much real information about motor home parking at the track. Do they have electrical hookup's?

It appears the padack rules only allow two vehicles including the race car. I have an enclosed trailer with stuff in it and more stuff in the motor home. Is this going to be a problem? The motor home and trailer combined are 65 feet long. I usually park the trailer and put the motor home next to it with space between that serves as the parking for the car and work area.

Will the 944's pit together?

Hi Jim,

I don't remember electrical hookup in the paddock but to be honest I never looked for it.

Parking your motor home and trailer together is fine because we'll have three 944spec cars without trailers so it'll even out.

I usually get to track on friday afternoon and reserve spaces for everyone but if you get there before me place save spaces.

Great racing weekend.

Race report to follow on the http://944spec.org website plus photo albums and videos.

Tom, sorry you weren't able to get your car running for the event. I know you were one of the first to signed up. Hope you get your engine oil pressure problem taken care of soon.

Here are a few pictures till the report is ready:

Ken, what a GREAT event. The track is awsome to drive on. There are too many great turns to get into detail here.

Guys, I can only say that, if you could have come but chose not to, you made a bad choice. Great drivers track, sensational weather, great people and great racing. The drive was worth the effort for such fun.

A new "must go" event for my schedule.

Great trophies, Cash, Toyo Bucks, fun BBQ and new friends.

Thanks, Ken, for a wonderful event.

I agree with Jim, this was one of my all around best race weekends ever! The NoCal racers, their friends and family are great hosts and all about having fun. I didn't want to come back home!

Thank you NASA NoCal and 944 spec

Ken,

Nice write up.

Too bad on the 89 car. Glad you were a-ok. That is great track to run, but sadly there are places were going off is potentially nasty. Is the frame tweaked?

Hi Joe,

The #89 car's frame doesn't look too bad, I'll know more when I bring it in to the body shop this Saturday. I was really impressed with the rubber apron technology used, it stop my car very gently. I felt like I dodged a bullet.

The best I can describe my mindset three laps prior to going off is this:

Once I got the open track I was giddy like a little kid in a candy store. I really open the car up and drove the classical school line without worrying about another race car being in that space and taking the line from me. I could tell I was getting faster with each succeeding lap. To put this in perspective I was running six seconds faster than my practice/qualifying sessions. Well everything happens faster, I got thru the last turn faster which means I got to Turn 10 faster, wanted to hold full throttle longer and overshot my turn in, missed the apex and ran out of track.

Stupid mistake I won't make again!

Ken, six seconds faster than qualifying. That is awsome. Getting faster has some risks. You are right, as you get faster you carry more speed through turns and gain even more speed going into the next corner and so on till you have a slow down corner. Learning to adjust your old driving style to the new speed takes some mental effort but, as you saw, the payoff is six seconds in only one race.

GREAT, GREAT JOB and keep it up.

Jim

Ken that is great! I didn't realize you picked up 6 seconds. I didn't mention earlier all the reasons for this being a fun weekend, everyone there wants to go faster, including me and Jim, I got some good pointers from Jim, Greg and the guys and I picked up and extra second on Sunday from our conversations and I think Greg got 4 seonds faster by Sunday morning. Sid doing DE looked like he was picking up speed too. Jerry, if you don't get a stiffer suspension under your car, I think it might fall over in couple of those turns!

I want to give a special thanks to Eric (Greg's son) for running over to our pits during the race after I got hit to help me out, I thought I was done, the fender was rubbing my tire and there was alot of smoke coming off of the tire, so I got out of the car and was changing into normal clothes and Eric started pulling my fender away from the tire and the next thing I know, I am getting my gear back on and getting back into the race. I only lost 4 laps, that's faster than NASCAR! With your passion for the sport I know your gonna be a great race car driver and beeting me and your dad soon, I hope that I can be a small part of making you really fast and safe.

Sid, thanks for the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Jim, Barb, Peanut and I left Sonoma at 4pm got to Palm Springs 2am, we unloaded my car from Jim's rig and onto my trailer and I left Palm Springs at 3am getting to Sedona at 9am, unloaded everything, took a shower and went to work. Without you and Krispy Kreme I could have not done it!!! Your my hero!!!!

I justified the long trip by saying I will only do this trip once, but I don't know now, I really want to go back again.

Thanks again,

Suspension is on its way ! I couldn't decide between 350 and 400 lbs springs so comprimised at 375

I was keeping up with Ken up til now but a 6 second increase I couldn't beat with the stock suspension.

Testing is scheduled for Aug 3/4/5 at Thunderhill with PCA as I can't make the Aug 11/12 race.

I might need you guys in the Bay Area to help on the torsion bar change (especially as Steve has done a few already!)
