Roll Call for May 19th

May 19th will be a Night race at Firebird. There will a 20-30 min sprint race qualifier for the main event which is a 90 minute night enduro. No pit stops required.

The entire event will be a night so headlights are requried. Since night raceing is new to most 944 spec guys this will be a bonus points race. Take the green flag for the 90 minute Enduro and you will get 50 944 spec seasons points. It does not mater how many laps or where you finish. This is to encourage you guys to come out and try night racing. There is also night race planned for July with the same 50 point deal so run both night races and you get a free 100 points as both races will be added to together.

1) Joe Paluch #94

2) Glenn Gormley #44 (share with Norm?)

3) Jon Ariano #76

4) Steve Marlow #74

5)

Oh... I did I forget to mention SPECTATORS! Yep this will be a spectator event with a few thousand people expected in the stands.

Should be a blast.

Keith is putting lights in for me this week so I'll be there. I will be looking for some advice about how to drive the car for 90 minutes, particularly regarding fuel but also as to what kind of pace you try to maintain. I was also wondering what Jason means by racing to qualify. Does that mean that you qualify for the enduro based on how you actually finish the 30 min race as opposed to just qualifying on best lap? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Great news as last night I installed my headlights and believe it or not they worked on first try. 7 years ago I built my car and pulled the lights then. I left the wires "just incase". Well after swapping lights from my 83 parts car the worked when I plugged them in.

So this means I am IN!!!!!

Steve,

We will be holding a qualfying race. This means we do a 30 min race and finishing order of that event determines the grid for the 90 min race.

As for running 90 minutes.... Make sure your oil level is spot on at the start of the race and add in a drink system if you can. I used a Camelback strapped to my roll cage. It has worked very well over the years. When it comes to driving you need to remember that you have 90 minutes out there so back it down a tiny bit. Thruthfully it is always a question as to how much to back off to still be on pace, but also not run out of steam by the end. It is part of the "enduro" mind set that makes it different from sprint racing. In my first 90 minute endro my only goal was to make it to then end. Even now 5 years and 70+ races later my goal is still just to finish as I have never run in dark so alot of this is new to me too.

Joe I am trying to get all the lights hooked up today and tomorrow, so far on street driving my car isn't dieing at this point. Looks like haveing the wrong gas cap can be fatal to the motor making it run to lean, just in 150 miles of street driving my tail pipe is turning black, it was really white, so the vented cap is doing something, I guess when on the track that will be the true test.

So, I am still possibly sharing with Glenn, but will let you know.

Is this a points race for Toyo Bucks and for points in first, second, etc...? Or just an addition 50 points for starting.

Toyo bucks will be awarded for the Enduro Finish order as usual. In a shared car, bucks will be given to the car owner. He can distribute to his co driver as he see fit.

We get bucks with as little as 3 cars and also for 4 starters, but we all know 5 cars for max toyo bucks.

BTW.. you could run your car for the start and the first 15 mintues or so Then park it and share the 44 with Glenn, This would give us 5 starters. I will still give you 50 pts for attendance.

Hope you guys have fun! Wish I could join you. Do you think it's wise to "add" this as a points event so late in the game? If you have a close race for the championship, the guy who wins could be the guy who showed up for this event, as it was not part of the original list of events I was just wondering. Like I said hope you enjoy. I loved running at night!!

O.K. I didn't realize it was always parts of your points run!! I hope you all have a great and very close race for the whole 90 min. I'm sure it'll be a blast. At our last Tribute it was more like a 4 hour sprint race as the cars were close the whole way through.

Have fun!!

And then there was light!! (who was it that said that) Maybe it was a beer commercial.

Anyway, I have my airplane landing lights all hooked up, ironically our town lost all power for about 4 hours tonight, so I had the pleasure of figuring this out by flash light so I guess you could say "and then there wasn't light"

I am going to at least start the race and make sure my motor problem is fixed. We start instructing at 3:30pm and the race starts at 8:50pm, with the temperature being rite at 100 in the day, I may not live for 90 minutes under race conditions. I still think air conditioning should be a new rule for our series!!!!!!!

We should now have at least 5 starters!
