Mberglo
Heard a rumor that side head restraint will be a requirement soon? My goal is AI, and I'm shopping for seats for an 89 Mustang. If it will soon be a requirement, it may narrow my search dramatically. Can the restraint be home-fabricated or must it be FIA homologated? Sparco is quite proud of theirs ($525 just for head wrap)
King Matt
It's not a rumor, it's in the 2007 NASA CCRs with details of the requirement and timing for implementation.
Members Ed M.
http://www.ultrashieldrace.com/prod.php?id=49 Awesome seat, great company to deal with. Other than a seat back brace (I/O Port), this is all you need... Good luck, Ed

Worth it at 2x the price! Thanks Ed.
Mberglo
It's not a rumor, it's in the 2007 NASA CCRs with details of the requirement and timing for implementation. Found it, thanks. Takes effect July 1, for those of you without a program. You can use a net on the right side as an alternative.
pederb
The section about side impact as of July 07, 15.17.9 page 67 in the 2007.21 CCR
martinc98
How are you guys mounting the triangle right-side head restraint net? My knee bar is too low (I think)... I'm assuming I have to go thru the dash to the firewall and rig something up there? Anyone got any pictures of their install? (I'm looking to switch from SCCA AS to NASA AI and am trying to figure out the changes I need...)
ekim952522000
You could use a eyebolt and a large washer similar to belt mounting a mount it threw the firewall.
martinc98
That's a good idea... I probably have some of those lying around... That's a pretty long distance from the cross bars on the cage behind the seat all the way to the firewall...probably about 5 feet. Do the available nets generally reach that far? I'm guessing I'll need some sort of extension that comes off the firewall and meets the actual net somewhere?
King Matt
The net itself is only about 2-3 feet long, but most of them come with a ratchet strap that loops around the dash bar or firefall anchor point to make up the rest of the distance. It will also have straps that loop behind the seat to the main roll bar hoop.
