Is there any obvious stuff for me to check/replace? I was already planning on replacing the cap/rotor/spark plug wires, the plugs are new but cheap so Ill probably do those as well. 944-Spec#94 Posted May 21, 2007 Share Posted May 21, 2007 You are about 15-20 hp low. I think removing the cat should get you 10 hp, but that still leaves you 5-10 hp shy. May even be a clogged cat. For a 944 spec car you want to break at least 130hp/130tq at the wheels on a dyno jet. If the also check all vacuum lines and A/F ratio's. BTW... K&N is that the flat drop in or the cone. If you have a cone ditch it... go back stock and pick 2-3 hp. Most times the issue is not the filter, most kits have a poorly designs transition from round to square the distrupts air flow. nhamden Posted May 21, 2007 Share Posted May 21, 2007 My first dyno showed 122hp, I had the head done correctly and shaved it to 49k and that gave me 10hp. Im going to take it out and clean it, but I dont think thats really the problem. I had to gut the cat last year when it got clogged to the point of not running. The dyno shop did measure AFR, the sheet is at home though. Ill check for vacuum leaks as well. I was reading on rennlist that some have picked up hp by tweaking the AFM, is this somehting I should even think about? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tweak the AFM only if you A/F ratios are not correct. You can't adjust it without being on a dyno since you can't really get it right without looking that the A/F curve. Many of the 88s came with california emmissions even though they arent from cali (mine's from wisconsin) if that is the case you want to replace the exhaust which is much more restrictive and is next on my order of business. Once I get the car unloaded Ill look at the option sticker and see if I have the CA emissions code. From the carfax history the car spent its whole life in FL. I only have a printout and then I spent 2 days at the track and it got rained on a little. I can try to take a picture of the sheet and see if that works. Hey, I just checked my '88 and I have option code C02 and I am from the east coast! How is this exhaust more restrictive? Headers? Cat? Muffler? All of the above?
