Qualifying for WERC races??

Hi guys and NASA staff,

Firstly I'd like to say again how awesome I think the WERC series is! I love all of the aspects that go into the endurance races and that you don't have to be in the expensive Grand Am series to do an annual series.

My question is, why can't we simply use the second practice session we get during the day for our qualifying? It is usually the qualifying session for the sprint races anyways, so people are boogieing pretty good on track. Gridding up people before the race would also be only very little added organization and work.

While it's a 3 hour race and things can even out, if the cars are very close in a class, if one starts at the front and the other at the back, then there could be a huge handicap for the one in the back. This can decide races.

It seems like such unfair racing can so easily be avoided and resolved.

Once again, I love the series and just wanted to support it so it can grow even more.

How about it??

Well, it appears that the NASA gods were looking down and shining upon us at Thunderhill, as the race director decided to use the qualifying session times to set the grid.

Thank you so much!! It was so much nicer...hope it continues.

I agree, it was great to have the cars gridded according to times for the Thunderhill event! I hope they continue the practice for future races. In E2, there were 3 cars on the same lap at the end, so yes, starting position COULD affect the outcome even in a 3 hour race.

Cheers,

Hurray for NASA listening to racer feedback! I was very happy to see them use qualifying for the Willow Enduro last weekend. Now if only we could have stayed ahead of the REA realty porchette. My co-driver keeps giving me crap for giving up the overall lead.

Seriously though, great job guys.

Yes, Big Thanks to John Lindsey, who was great to hear us and make the adjustment at Willow for qualifying. Great job John, as I heard so many racers expressing how much they liked it!

Big thanks to Jim Pierce of Pierce Motorsports for building such a fun, fast and reliable car for us. Gotta love the PorVette. Thanks Jim!!

Good racing with the 67 SLR car indeed! We got a little nervous when our second driver spun in 8, and didn't know if we lost a spot or not...luckily we kept the lead. Good, clean racing all around, from guys inside and outside of our class. Thanks to all, as it was we enjoyed the race.

Rematch at Buttonwillow in October SLR?? Though the Mazda sports racer should be very very fast there, along with the Tiger Racing M3. Should be good fun.

Let's keep promoting these races, as they're a blast, and at least for us, so much more fun than a sprint race.

We will definitely be there, but we are also racing in the USTCC race. At Thunderhill the USTCC group ran with the enduro group for the first hour but they wouldn't let me keep going after the USTCC race ended and compete in both races. Hopefully the USTCC group is separate from the enduro group this time.
