hello all,

Heading to CMP this weekend for my 1st HPDS with Carolina Regional Mustang Club.

i will be in a Silver '07 Mustang Vert.

Any links to threads with info or treatises on basic HPD tips, info, base level of knowledge, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I am new to all this, and would like to hit the school with as much base-level knowledge as possible.

thanks,

doc

CMP= BRAKES, BRAKES, BRAKES!

Make sure you have them, that they are new, and check them often throughout the event as CMP is a killer on brakes on heavier cars...as I understand from some past posts on this forum

First I see that you are driving a vert do you have a roll bar in it? If not I doubt they will let you play.

Second I use to drive a '03 Must/Cobra vert for my track car. Make sure you start with fresh pads and brake fluid. Bring a second set of pads also. Being this is your first time one set may get you through the weekend because you will not be getting all that aggressive.

Third you know that this is a very addictive sport you are getting into. So be prepare for the ear to eat grin and the "Hurry Up for the next event to get here feeling" that most of us live with.

listen to your instructor, and be sure to buy them lunch, dinner, and beer

Dang guess I really screwed up.

First of all, Welcome to NASA and hopefully your experience with the MCA at CMP is a great one.

Everyone: The event that the Mustang Club is putting on is an entry level HPDE with cone exercises in the morning. All low speed, braking and slalom stuff to develop car control skills. After lunch the cones are removed and they move into high speed. The beginner group and convertibles with no roll bar are limited to 70-80mph I believe. I was tentative to attend this event as an instructor but have family obligation and cannot attend.

The link that Sean posted provides helpful info for your first and future HPDE events. Hopefully we will see you at a NASA event. We have alot of Mustang drivers that can help you get up to speed with your Pony car.

You wont use up much pad life in the morning. The high speed stuff will accelerate brake wear, but you should be ok. Run the pads until they are 1/16". You can make it home on the rest.

What to know:

Get there early, maybe friday night.

Get everything out of your car and get through tech and registration.

Bring lots of water and carry a water bottle with you ALL DAY. Drink often.

Be early to class and early to grid. THis is paramount.

have a pow wow with your instructor before and after each session if possible to discuss goals, objectives, and accomplishments.

Check your tire pressures cold, set them and then check them hot and make a mental note how much they creeped up.

This early in your driving optimal tire pressures are not important. Having decent pressure is important and checking them shows that you are conscientious.

Number one bit of advice while in car:

Keep your eyes way ahead.

Always look as far ahead as possible.

Be sure to listen to your instructors, relax, drink water, have fun and drink water, then drink some more.

Best of luck.
