Excuse my ignorance, with all respect to Bill, but shouldn't an SP-2 car (and I class) ultimately BE faster than an SP-1, given equal drivers? I mean, Bill's taking the fight to them, but.....

Yes, but DD is interested in how much to refine his weight-based equalization (I presume).

My difficulty is how to get a spec car to 2550 with me in it (later cars like my 88 are heavier), and stay in spec rules. I'm going pretty deep into wt. reduction to get close - no lights or light hardware, no PS, removed heat shielding around motor/exhaust, gutted doors, removed glass, lightweight battery, scraped off tar mats, straight exhaust without cat, no heater core, A-C, unbolted all unused brackets, etc. I'm hoping (but not quite there yet) to get under 2,600, so I can add some ballast for the spec class.

You are correct Eric, was pondering the options about refinements, particularly of the non intrusive type. I can see your point on the later models and 2550 or lower. Have been able to get the early models down into the 2300's w/o driver and keeping OEM glass and bumpers. But only the high 2400's with the later models (no driver). This application is likely very limited going forward anyway.

And I would agree Bill, under the SP1 and 2 rulesets. Though I think comparing track records from diffferent years is not a good a comparison as conditions can vary year to year.

But you did show again last weekend at the Glen that a good spec car and driver can be competitive with with a good Cup combination. You did the same last month at Mid Ohio:

Mid Ohio/2007

1 BRADY CRIS SP2 29:40.650 1:48.436

1 COMAT BILL SP1 29:42.000 1:48.664

Dave, Larry Collins set the track record this year at 1:45.480. That's a lot faster than Cris or I were able to achieve.

I did not get in for Friday at Hyperfest.

Thought u finished just behind Cris B, who was first in SP2 at the PCA Mid Ohio race, with u ahead of the next two SP2 cars. Didn't think Larry made that race.

Chuck, I weighed 2653 at the end of the enduro and set my fastest lap of the weekend in the final laps of that race. I need to work at better weight control for Hyperfest.

Dave I'm just reporting the fastest race laps as per PCA results.

Thanks Chuck, I am really looking forward to the Nationals, assuming all goes well to get there. Now I need to fine tune the car and get my butt in top gear.

Thanks Bill. I see it now, Larry turned that time in the Enduro. And that is a heckava lap, beating anything done at Nationals last year. Could be an indicator of what's in store for this year. And Larry did that on Hankooks. Looks like the Cup racers may have another good tire option.

Dave I think that Larry is registered for Hyperfest, so we may see a real preview of Nationals. Fun,Fun,and more Fun!

And Ernie from Mantisport would like to bring another spec car down for Hyperfest, so hopefully we can get him. If we can, that would make 49 944 Challenge cars. Respectable for a series with cars that are 20 years old.
