Oil overflow/catch cans

Recommended Posts

I think I'm confusing myself but are aftermarket oil overflow/catch cans legal in H4? I can't find it in the rulebook.

If they are legal, what does everyone recommend? I've been looking around the net and they hover around $80-$100.

Not sure? I do not see the evap system addressed in the Allowed Mods H1-H5 Engine section

Since it is not addressed I believe this rule comes into play.

7.7 Miscellaneous

i) All engine components not listed in these rules must conform to factory OEM specifications.

Any other thoughts?

I keep ending up here:

1. Introduction

...The following rules are not guidelines for this class but an actual listing of the allowed and the required modifications. These rules and addendums specify the only modifications allowed. If these rules do not expressly state a modification is allowed, it is prohibited. No item, which is allowed, shall also perform a prohibited function....

I thought catch can is safety item so you don't oil or put water on the track. I would think it is allowed.

i seem to recall there's it's considered a smog piece, which can be removed (and added?).

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm a NASA racer in Honda Challenge H4. Is there no book. No pamphlet or manual, no regulation or set of written orders or instructions that lets me know that, as a NASA racer in Honda Challenge H4, I can use an oil overflow/catch can?

11.4.4 Engine Bay

There should be no fluid leaks from the engine. A radiator overflow of at least one-liter

capacity should be used. Oil breathers or vents shall return the oil to the engine or shall

terminate in a catch tank of at least one-liter. All hoses carrying fluids should be in good

condition with no cracks or other damage.

This is from the nasa ccr concerning HPDE cars best I could find.
