Litespeeds
I am purchasing a car that has a bolt in rollcage but the owner does not know if it has DOM or ERW tubing. Is there a way to find out? I think he said the last time it was teched was back in 1989 so I guess it is about 18+ years old. Can I use this for 944 Spec Racing or should I just sell it and get a new one? 944-Spec#94
ERW tube has seam on the inside of the tubes. DOM does not have that seam. Maybe remove the door bar and look on the inside. My guess is that it would be ERW being that old. Does the car have a log book?
JerryW
When Ken from I/O Port teched my car for the log book he measured the thickenss of the roll cage through the inspection hole and was able to determine from the thickness whether is was ERW or DOM (The autopower I had put in WAS ERW and so I had to pull it and get another cage. Chances are an autopower bolt in that old will be ERW.
Chuck T.
through the inspection hole . straighten out a paper clip. stick it in the hole and bend it so it runs along the inside. if you feel a ridge it's erw if not it's dom. Thats how they check for erw in my region.
