bnewport
Does a race car need an inside driver side safety net for NASA racing? That gives a net on the window and another net on the right hand side of the driver seat. I bought one today anyway.

Chuck T.
yes and NO ... you need a "head restraint" a net or anything will meet the rule. could be as simple as a al. brace.
bnewport
I have an R3 H&N, is that a head restraint? Also, does the steering lock need to be removed? Mine still has the lock.
DavidH
Its probably a good idea to put the net in even if you have H & N. The net is intended to protect more for lateral movement. Even better is a "wings" style seat. The problem with those is getting in and out of the car for us vertically challenged (short: seat moved forward) with that kind of seat. The rake of the window and the wings make it so that there is not enough room for your head to get out. I am trying to figure out a solution to that if anyone has any suggestions. I would rather have a "wings" style seat as it offers better protection than a flimsy net.
944-Spec#94
The intent of the rule is to have EITHER WING SEATS or the Side Net. December of 2005 I put in a side net because I felt it was the best form of side protection. I personally think it is better than wing seat because of the larger catch area. I will bring up my old thread on side nets installation.
944-Spec#94
My Right side net In the rear I mounted mine to the cage with collars to prevent sliding and to the battery tray area since I do not have a dash bar.
bnewport
Looks like you bought the same one as me, I bought a Kevlar Safety Solutions one.
bnewport
Any chance of a picture of it from the rear to see where you attached it to the cage etc?
944-Spec#94
It is wrapped around the roll cage bars using the supplied hardware I use collars to prevent it from sliding around side ways.
DavidH
Joe, Thank you for the pictures. Actually, I have the net already and was trying to think of a way to install a wings seat as the nets on either side are farther(especially the window net) from my head than a wings seat would be, thus allowing more lateral movement. By the way, where did you pick up the collars? I think that is a very good idea.
