Utah944 Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 OK so I got my main bearings replaced and the lower crankcase back on and everything was great THEN I LOOKED INTO MY TRAY WHERE THE PARTS WERE STORED AND THEY WAS ONE PIECE LEFT!@#$%. It appears to be a dowel sleeve but I could not find a mention of one in the manual I have. The lower crank case seems aligned as the surface for the oil pump is smooth. do i need to pull it apart agian? Quote
Utah944 Posted June 21, 2007 Author Posted June 21, 2007 I will work on getting a picture but I am not the most IT inclined person. Quote
Utah944 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 sorry but the camera was left in my tahoe which a friend borrowed to go camping for a week and half so I can't get a picture. Is there an alignment guide for the lower crank case girdle? Thats was this dowel sleeve looks like it could be? it is roughly 10mm in diameter and 15 mm long. I would like to finish the crank assembly before pueblo. I could have misplaced the dowel into the girdle bag by accident? any help from someone who has done there bearings before would be great. greg f Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 The girdle has two counterbored holes at each end. One of these accepts a hollow alignment dowel to prevent the girdle " creeping". It actually makes it more difficult to line up the oil pump face when you torque the girdle. Note that even though there are two locations for a dowel, you only use one. Greg F Quote
Utah944 Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 ok so I can not find where the dowel goes??>?>>? can you be more specific on the location of the hole? Quote
greg f Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Look at the main, ( large) studs for the bearing girdle. ( there are ten). Bearing one is at the front of the engine, bearing five is at the rear. Look carefully at the two studs where they come out of the main block and you will notice that one of the holes is larger, ( counterbored ). The #1 main bearing stud has a counterbore as well, but is not used. Greg F Quote
