delsolLS Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Hello everyone, I am participating in the Comp School at MAM with NASA Rocky Mountain, Midwest regions. Have been doing autocross, HPDE's for the past six years and am going to try the next step. I have a H1 Honda del Sol that weighs 2340 lbs and will be using Toyo RA-1's for the first time at MAM. The customer service rep said that the ideal tire temp for RA-1's is 180-220F with psi in the upper 30's hot. Does that sound right to everyone? MAM can be a tire eater when it is hot out and I want to get the most life out of these tires that I can. Quote
mc-integra111 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I have a 1990 Integra, ITA, 2600 lbs, running 205 and 225 RA-1's. I see about 38-40 psi and 190's F hot when measured on pit lane after coming off the track. It drops to about 36-37 psi and 160-170's F if I wait until the paddock. That is probably about right, although my extra 350 lbs is kinda a big difference. Quote
Chris F Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Holy crap, a Honda is making it out to MAM? Have fun! Will you be racing in the Midwest region anytime soon? Making it out to Autobahn or Mid-Ohio before Nationals? Quote
delsolLS Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 (edited) Right now I have a pretty limited budget. Had to pay for car prep, tow vehicle, trailer, etc. this year. Looking at the events at MAM and MPH this year, expanding as cash allows next year. If the Iowa Speedway is on the calendar next year, I will make that one as well. Are there any plans to run NASA events at Heartland Park? Edited June 29, 2007 by Guest Quote
wm577 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 try 26 psi F, and 28 psi rear, cold temps to start with. Quote

I just started running full tread 225 RA1s last weekend and I'm another Midwest guy. 95 Civic K20 swapped 2480lb, no LSD. Maybe a H1 dude in 09 but for now just learnin the ropes... I was just out at MAM last Saturday. My FL went from 31psi cold to 44 psi hot after one cool down lap. I worked on getting my pressures to b/t 38-40 for the front and 35-36 rear. I didn't have a pyrometer on hand. I'm definitely thinkin I need to be around 25-26PSI starting temps for the FL at the MAM track. I'm going to shoot for a MAX front tire pressure of 37-38 front next time and rears b/t 33-36 depending on feel of car. What kind of camber are you running delsolLS??? Where you from? I'm in Central Iowa, AMES. Quote

There is a Find the Line event on Spet. 29-30 at MAM. Cheap track time and lots of it too.. . http://www.findtheline.com/ What kind of Lap times did you get at MAM? Quote
mc-integra111 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 When you say pit lane, is this imediately after the checkered or like 3/4 or 1 lap after the checkered? Pretty much immediately. I come into the pits instead of taking the checkered in practice and sometimes qualifying sessions. That means I am running at speed for all but the last right hand corner and then i enter the pits and get temps/pressures. I agree 44 psi is too high. I would not recommend getting the RA1'a much above 40. My starting pressures for reference are 28 psi Front and 30 psi rear. Quote

Just come in hot and then go back out to cool down. MAM has a terrible lot to drive around and cool your brakes down. Quote
delsolLS Posted September 14, 2007 Author Posted September 14, 2007 I have 3 degrees negative camber ft. Depending on weather/track temp, I have ran the RA-1's at 28-31psi ft, 30-33psi rear. If you can get them to 40 psi hot, they seem to work well. The comp school was great! Learned alot and got to race on Sunday. My HPDE lap times at MAM have been high 1:49's. I couldn't do any better than 1:52's during qualifying and race. I was having quite a battle with a PTE Fiero during the race, couldn't get around him for several laps. Quote

Nice, I should be able to sub 1:50s as well. I noticed the other day that my car as been running at 90% throttle according to my Kpro datalogs. The extra hp and trq should pull me around a bit faster than my low 1:53s in traffic. My last 3 sessions weren't timed my last time out. Since it was my first time on R comps, hopefully I did better than 1:53 though.. . I know I picked up some speed by changing my line and not braking for 11 and 12. I'll be out there again on the 29th and 30th with the Find the Line group. http://findtheline.com Quote
