Anyone on the list know of any non-sunroof 84 to 86 944's for sale? I would need a straight, clean tub with no major collisions. Running condition or color not important. Post here or PM me if you have a lead.... Greg Fordahl

Greg,

My brother and I rescued an 84 non-sunroof car from a barn a few weeks ago. Let me know if you might be interested. Car is located about an hour north of Indianapolis.

Can you give me some details? body color, running or not, milage showing on odo and how much you would want for it. Greg

Sad story really, engine fire at 68K. Car is guards red over black. Paint is excellent except for the hood. The owner of the car at the time of the fire kept it in his grandparents barn and started to part it out. Overall, it would make a nice base for a race car. I will try to get some pics up for you later today.

We also have both doors, hatch, rear bumper, one of the fenders and some other things I may be forgetting. Not sure if you would want these or not based on what your plans are. I was planning on keeping the engine, but we can discuss this. Car has no trans and no computers/wiring harness. Send me a PM if you are interested. I do have the title for it.

This car is still available. Would like to sell it before winter. $400 OBO takes it as a roller as shown less motor. Will also include doors, hatch, DS fender. Nice opportunity to get a low mileage, straight, corrosion free non-sunroof early car. Would hate to send this thing off to the scrap yard! email to benjaminplowe at hotmail.com.

No scrap yard for that thing...

it took me over a year to find a non sunroof 924S.

I know! That is why I rescued this one from the barn in the first place. Have a couple interested parties so far.

Can we do "roof swaps" ?

Can we do "roof swaps" ?

Sure... It will be expensive and probably not worth it, but if you can graft a non-sunroof top on a sun roof car go for it. There is not spefic allowance for this so it would fall under the update/backdate rule. That means however that it would need to be the same as non sun roof car when done. What I means is that if inspected it should appear nearly identical to an original non-sunroof car. If there is any difference in structure from either roof then it would not be legal.

Yeah, it's a long shot, but would be a good base for another local car...

Thanks for the clarification on the rules, sounds reasonable.

Guys, sorry I missed the posts to the thread. Also Doc, did not see your PMs? I am currently working on a deal with a forum member and I am quite sure the car is sold. I will post either way. Thanks all for the interest.

Eric,

Building on what Joe said......

If the swap is done, please make sure that the process of cutting and welding doesn't yield a car with a shorter roofline.

BTW, what's the gain for this endeavor?

Car is sold and has been picked up. Thanks Rob and NasaForums!

A little more headroon, a little less weight. Not seriously looking at this, just dreaming.

My "holy grail" spec car- Early Non-sunroof chassis, late offset suspension for it's improved geometry (I know this is an area of debate), '88 motor, short 5th & LSD. Hey, we can all dream right?

Rob Carpenter from Michigan?

Thanks for the reply, in any case, I'll stop daydreaming about a Non-sunroof car.

Yep, twas me Eric. It was too close to let it get scrapped. Also, I can use some of the parts. If you promise to make a really nice race car out of it we can arrange for you to own it.

Jim - I'll meet you more than 1/2 way - bring it to Miller!

Eric,

Yes, I love 944s. I actually like them better than 911s pretty much universally. I must admit however, if someone dropped the keys to a new GT3 in my hand I wouldn't be upset. I'll check my email this afternoon and get back to you. I'm in the middle of doing the front end on the '85 car. I have it up on stands locked at TDC with everything ready to go. New belts, waterpump, etc should be installed today. If the new radiator fitting and intake boot show up in the mail the car should be running again tomorrow!
