Mac11 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 There is a bit of a discussion between a few members of my RX-8 community as to how a few commonly used coilovers would be assessed points. The coilovers in question are the Tein flex's. http://www.tein.com/flexdamp.html The debate is which rule they would be covered under: 1) Non-OEM shocks/struts/dampers with an external reservoir or more than two ranges of adjustment +10 (example: compression (bump) and both high & low rebound adjustments)(must still take points for springs below). -OR- 3) Non-OEM or modified/re-valved shocks/struts/dampers +3 (all others)(springs not included) The possible explanations are this: They would be considered under rule 1 because... There is technically 4 ranges of adjustment rebound, compression (even though it is a single adjustment that controls both) and ride heigh and spring perch height. They would be considered under rule 3 because... This rule is written regarding dampers and dampers only. Notice that the only adjustment examples are variations of damping adjustment - compression, high speed rebound, and low speed rebound. Spring perch height is external to the damper mechanism, and is not normally considered a damper adjustment. Can anyone help me out and let us know exactly what we would be looking at with these - and similar - coilovers as the difference in (total) points asessed 12 or 5 will make a very significant difference to many of us. Thank you. -Mac Quote
Mac11 Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 I'm pretty sure I found my answer in this thread, but for the sake of clarity can someone please verify that I am on the right track? Quote
kbrew8991 Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 more than 2 ranges of adjustment is meant to catch high and low speed bound with rebound adjustment... the spring perch stuff doesn't count towards that adjustment count... as long as its under the price cap, has no external reservoirs, and only has simple bound and rebound its +5 Quote
