Howdy,

I signed up for hpde 1 on accident, how can i change it to 2?

As I understand an instructor still is involved in 2 which I want. However its not my first track day(with Nasa it will be) and I think level 1 is going backwards for me.

any tips?

what event did you sign up for? (need more info)

Track?

Region?

Date?

check the region's contact info and get intouch with the registrar to get this sorted out.

If Group2 is wait-listed, you will have to "wait" to get a spot.

HPDE 1 and 2 run together in SoCal. Just tell John (the leader of that combined group) at thet track that you made a mistake and will be in HPDE 2. An instructor is optional in HPDE 2, as you know. Bring your passport, in any case.

Or you can send an email to NASA and have them straighten it out administratively.

I am guessing he doesnt have a Passport yet, but the email is a good suggestion.

It sounds like it wont make a difference if the two groups are run together. Our groups are so large that each gets their own session.

Have fun and welcome to NASA !

thanks for the welcome,

thats what im afraid of ...the 2 groups combined.because i have had my share of track days where i felt i was being bogged down by the group i was in. I end up complaining in the download sessions about no point bys and people not noticing large trains behind them...now im not sure i would be able to comfortably run in 3 so im confused as you can see.

Send an email to Nasa Socal and let them know what's up. Group 1 and 2 run together, but group 1 can sell out, so you'd be freeing up an instructor to run with a rookie if you let them know what's up!

See you there!

I got it fixed, I am in 2. Now if i can only get to 3 and get away from these 2 groups ill be happy.

thanks for the help to those who posted

quickest way to not get moved up is attitude and lack of patience

just go and have as much fun as you can, learn what the guy in the right hand seat wants you to learn and you'll be well on your way

Good info K brew,Dont get me wrong im not pushing things, just i dont understand why the 1 and 2 groups are combined. The track days i have been to they have been seperate and it was the proper for me to be in 2. Now with 1 in the mix of traffic i just feel thats a backward step and my learning curve will be slower than i need. But i will leave it to the instructor, if im "ready" to move up to 3 im sure something will be mentioned to me.

might be the number of people they have register, or schedule considerations, or some other factor, or both?

Westup, I'm your SoCal HPDE3 Group Lead aka Maddog. Introduce yourself to me at the track and we'll talk. Also let John Matthews (your HPDE1/2 Lead) know about your concens and we'll keep an eye out for you.

Check out Frank's comments about HPDE1/2 on this thread http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=15913 cause it has the best advice I've seen for how to handle the traffic in 1/2.

Now, that said, coming up on slower traffic and getting to pass them on skill and better handling is the most fun you can have on track. Enjoy the experience, 'cause the only way anybody gets clear track is on racer test days down here.

See ya on pregrid Saturday . . .

+1 to what MadDog Mike just said.

I'm in HPDE 3 and I'm impressed with the level of skill that I see in this group. Make sure you're ready for it. There are some fast drivers here (no, I'm not one of them )

Right on Maddog,

good tips, i look forward to meeting you on saturday.

quick question...i have some falken azenis tires that are at the indicators.. can i still use them at the track in hpde. they have 3/64th to 4/64th tread left.

Happy 4th

Of course you can. It is the number of heat cycles, not tread depth that is the ultimate determining factor about whether the tires are junk or not.

Just checked the weather forecast. It'll be around 98-100 @ midday. So Azenias will be going off after 3-4 "hot laps". I'd use the buggers and have a blast at the limit if you're good enough to get to that point and have enough car control to stay at .7-.8. They'll be a blast to have fun with.
