aight. i have had a GTECH RR for a while. im wondering how i can make this thing work for me, get some helpfull use out of it, lol if there is any. It comes with this software called PASS . and you can compare laps.. but, i find that hard to do without a course map... its just graphs. and allso is there a way to acuratly time your self with this thing, or is the only way to reach up and hit stop, to stop the lap.. i dunno is this thing good for anything??? lol

Thanks!

Shane

I don't have any experience with the GTECH, but think it's going to be pretty limited as a data acquisition device. As a timer, no system is going to show you exactly what NASA is seeing unless you got a Disply IT to go with your transponder.

I have the Traqmate and have been very pleased witht he coorelation of data that I have and what NASA shows as official times. They have always been within a few thousands of each other so I know both are accurate.

traq mate, how does that thing know when to stop and restart the lap time???? do you have to manually do it ??? stop and start it like a stop watch?

Nope. You set the start/finish coordinates for each track, you can do that on a warm up lap (push button one time) or get the info online and do it before you go to the track. After that it is all magic and happens automatically. Great stuff ! ! !

ok so tell me. does it map the course for you??? or do you have to download maps into it?

If by thing, you mean traqmate, its data acquisition. It uses GPS and gmeters and allows you to analyze the data. Honestly, to get its full potential, you really got to know what you are looking at. It can be learned, but I rely on my team to analyze the data for me and then tell me what to do in terms I understand/can apply on the track.

I wonder if that MAXq Data is just as good?? all i want is something to Map the track and show me my braking points and throttle points ect ect and be able to compare laps. Maxq does all that for like 400 bucks less. but, i wonder if it does it as good, mabey there is draw backs about maxq i do not know about

I don't know about MaxQ so I won't comment, but Traqmate does all the things you are looking for.

You can go to the website and download the viewer (for free) and also some sample files to see what it does.

ExRacer on this site uses MaxQ. He runs the HPDE3 groups here in So Cal.

I use a G2X unit. GPS track mapping and all that. If you're data savvy, this is for you...

I'm in the process of getting a system from Blind Apex. It uses NASA's timming system. Once you cross the finish line, the lines/wires pick up a signal from your AMB transponder and records your time on NASA's computer. NASA has a transmitter that then sends out a signal. This signal can be picked up by Blind Apex's in car display unit, which tells you your lap time and other info. That same signal can be picked up by a device that hooks to your laptop so your crew/team can see the results. It gives out a transponder ID number and you type in the info of the car/driver. Much like NASA does when you register your transponder number. Anybody can use this system HPDE, TT or any race class. Check it out, here is their web-site....... http://www.blindapex.com/ Carl is his name if you wish to call and talk to him. He actually designed this system. I can't wait till it gets here.

if you just want your laptimes, there are less expensive laptimers that can automatically give you that info without the expense of a full-bore data aq setup

but I can tell ya which one will be more likely to tell you why/how you're fast/slow

I'm sorry I don't understand. Please elaborate!

laptimes are laptimes

data aq can tell you your line, entry speed, exit speed, g-forces in all directions which you can use to see WHY or HOW you're fast

OK, now you have my interest. Who makes this system? or where might I find one?

there are MANY companies that make data aquisition systems

the two most popular for their mix of budget friendly-ness mixed with what you get are the Traqmate and RacePack G2X. Much less than those level systems and you don't get much data to sink your teeth into... more than that can get to be too much for non-pros who don't have 10 engineers on staff

I've only borrowed a G2X a few times, and I made the guy I borrowed it from crunch the numbers and make all the neat little graphs, so I can't really comment on which one is better/easier/etc
