Chuck T.
I know Norcal has a few of them and I have 1 . please consider this when you buy a data capture unit .

JamesWilson
I can do the same for the Traqmate Complete or the RacePak G2X with the full display (speed, rpm, Gear Position, and sequential shift lights) for the guys here on the West Coast. Can deliver to the track and help set up, it is fairly easy. Cost would be $849.00 for either. Let me know! [email protected]

JamesWilson
No problem. Just enter "NASA" for the coupon code on checkout on the web site, it should give you that discount throughout. Just don't abuse it

bnewport
Either unit is nice. The G2X has more sensors and can be expanded but the Traqmate has better software for analyzing, I've 3 G2Xs and Traqmate is also a sponsor of Trackpedia since this summer so I'll be getting a couple of these also. Tim Comeau
I was hoping you'd chime in, Billy. So one unit is better for gathering data and the other is better for interpreting it? Is that accurate?

Is that accurate? Lets say Traqmate is not the absolute best ... (i think it's great but even if it's not). the big advantage to all of us owning Traqmate is we can share data and replay the race ! bnewport
We have over 40 tracks worth of data from lots of different cars and drivers at trackpedia. A single logger brand is great for exactly that reason. There are some cooler features in the traqmate software for sure.

bnewport
G2X figures out the gearing using a TACH signal. You drive it in each gear and then configure it once by hitting a button and then shift. It uses the GPS speed with the tach to figure the gear out or you can also give it gear ratios but the other way is easier. You can wire the tach two ways. One uses a tach signal thats low voltage and the other way is using a magnetic pickup that goes on a high voltage coil line. Down the road you can expand the G2X with steering, brake pressure, oil temp etc but it ain't cheap, no logger with a lot of sensors will be low cost. Chuck T.
The gear selection is software . Traqmate also has all of the sensor options.
schwank
I purchased a TraqMate complete system earlier this year and have used it half a dozen times so far this year. It is pretty easy to get setup at a basic level, and the battery pack is nice if you want to move it between cars. Mine is mounted in the rear hatch area for a clean signal path, and I run the wire up the tunnel to the dash area where the display unit is located. Overall I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. The UI of the software could use a bit of tweaking but in general I think it is pretty decent. I have yet to hook up RPM input (soon) or use the video camera integration (next year) but from the speed, throttle position, and a common knowledge of my track it is easy to discern what gear I was in. The software took some tweaking to the sensitivity as the initial values resulted in the graphs showing me coasting most of the way down the main straight. Evidently the ol NA doesn't have enough acceleration at the default level. I did learn just how badly my speedo is off though... 118 indicated on the speedo comes out to 104mph on the TraqMate You can dl the software and try it out with any data file you can find. I have a bunch in the 944 from Portland if anyone is interested.

I did learn just how badly my speedo is off though... 118 indicated on the speedo comes out to 104mph on the TraqMate So with rpm and mph data, along with track knowledge of what gear is being used, should be able to identify use of non stock gears or R&P. Is the RPM input difficult to hook up? Suitable for taking from one car to the next fairly quickly?
schwank
For our cars with a coil the RPM signal can be pulled from the negative coil wire. I plan on doing the install of that portion in the next couple weeks and will have data at that time, probably from my 8/17 track day. Maybe I can get it configured tonight or tomorrow and pull data this Sunday. If someone were to make a proper harness attachment I doubt it would be difficult at all to move quickly between cars. You would simply need to package the display unit, GPS box, and antenna into one nice little package and then add in the coil wire. Drop the box in the car, tap the coil wire, and make sure the antenna sees the sky. Ready to race. The next version of the software will have gear calculation built in but for now it is not hard to figure out. It would certainly allow you to find folks with non-stock ratios. I'll update the thread when I get the RPM tap working.
