bmw22
It's was only an occasional problem, the car wouldn't start. I'd leave it sit 5 or 10 minutes and it would start. It would be fine for a few days and then happen again. It became more frequent, until today, and now it just won't start. I took out the DME relay and jumped 30 and 87b and the fuel pump runs. I put the relay back in and turn on the ignition and the fuel pump doesn't run at all. Should it run for a couple seconds? I think it should just like it does on and other motronic car. Is it common for these relays to go bad. What else could it be.? Thanks, Mark
944-Spec#94
DME relays are very common failures on these cars. They are some guys that carry spares in street cars just incase. You should be able to run it on the jumper for abit until you get a new relay.
roberth944
You can bridge terminal 87 and 30 and get the pump to run on the Dme plug. Try tapping on the reference sensor when you get the no start condition and see if it fires. the wiring inside this sensor sometimes fails once the sensor gets warm and thermal expansion takes place creating an open circut. by tapping on the sensor with a screwdriver I have gotten these cars to start before. If so replace the reference sensor.
924sowner
also of note the fuel pump dosent run unless the motor is turning over or running.
Tim Comeau
Mark, It sounds like a DME relay to me. We have a car at the shop that we're building up. Sometimes it won't start. Bang on the DME relay and it comes to life! .......and you probably wouldn't have this problem if your 944 was happy with you. You need to quit that GTS stuff and come race with the class where your car belongs! 944 Spec.!
