Sterling Doc
Doug & Robin Hillman for VFC Engineering have committed to putting up $400 per weekend for contingecy money at Midwest events next year. This is straight cash, not discounts/certificates/coupons, for Spec class cars. We only need 4 cars next year at any event to make this happen. With Toyo bucks, and more sponsors in the wings, we'll be paying YOU to race. For the Cup & Supercup guys, there are Hankook bucks available, and more to come (stay tuned)! Doug is also looking to build cars to suit - Spec, Cup, or SuperCup. He will also assist you in any parts of your own build that you need help in (e.g. custom cage, etc.). Doug will be at the NASA Midwest events for the rest of this year, and next year. He is also avaiable for trackside support. Big thanks to Doug & Robin of VFC for having faith in a fledgling (but rapidly growing) program. Edited August 21, 2007 by Guest
kevintee
When will we know the schedule for those events? I don't have a car (or racing license yet) but I would love to be able to take my care when I get it and watch/support the racing and do HPDE's and work towards my license. Tim Comeau
Way to go, Eric! It might be helpful to push some door prizes to the newer HPDE 944 guys who can't race just yet.

You can find the rest of this year's schedule at http://www.nasamidwest.com. Come out and watch, or bring your street car to HPDE - whatever it is (OK a lifted 4x4 is out, but it doesn't have to be a 944 ). Robin of VFC makes great food at the track - join us for that if nothing else. Next year schedule is only in the planning stages. F1rocks
Good stuff Doc!! Hey are you running a race school at the October RA event? There is a good chance I'll have my PCA license by then but if not, I'd love to get both licenses by the end of the year and maybe do a race weekend. Doh! Nevermind, I see it's cancelled!! Brent Knoll (Tiger Car in Minneapolis) Soon to be #922 SP1 (Motif TBD!)

Brent Knoll (Tiger Car in Minneapolis) Soon to be #922 SP1 (Motif TBD!) Yeah, R.A. pulled out Oct. spot when we got the August one. We are having a comp school in a few weeks at Gingerman. If you do get your PCA lisence, NASA will recognize that, but you do have to apply for it. Your tiger car is pretty cool looking - hopefully the next one looks as good! F1rocks
Your tiger car is pretty cool looking - hopefully the next one looks as good! Well the "next one" I am trying to build on a budget. I haven't decided if I'll repaint the SP1 car or run as is. I sold my 89 911 to a guy who builds wraps (trucks, cars etc...) so I might score and wrap the whole car for next to nothing. The wrap would be more valuable than the chassis I'm currently at less than $5500 with a lot of sweat equity. That's including a Chassis with a broke motor, rebuilt head, Full spec suspension, Autopower roll bar, Aluminum seat, (3) complete sets of wheels, shaved RA1's and a set of rain RA1's. Jim Bryant has been a big help to assist in procurement of parts. I'm really enjoying the challenge of building this one and outfitting it for racing on the cheap. I hope we can rival the SP1 numbers out there on the West side of the country!!
kevintee
[snip] (OK a lifted 4x4 is out, but it doesn't have to be a 944 ). [/snip] Good guess on the lifted 4x4. I actually just sold a project one in order to start saving up for a 944 and may end up selling my DD lifted wrangler as well. I'll be looking for one for the next 4 or 5 months before I buy a 944 as I will be out of the country until january. I will definitely come to a few events though when I get back even if I won't be driving!

pixrken
Great job Eric! Thanks Doug & Robin for your sponsorship and support of 944's in the Midwest!
vwmann1
Just wanted to take a minute to chime in here. Robyn and I are very excited to help Eric build this class. We are trying to put 15-16 cars on the grid some time soon. We hope that by "seeding" the waters so to speak we will be able to bring in some larger sponsors so cash pay-outs will increase. There is no reason we can not make this a significant amount of money for you racers out there. On a side note just a few words on what VFC Engineering can do for you. We are a German only race facility located in Chicago, IL. Being racers ourselves, we can help a racer at any level from alignments and setup help all the way to a complete car build. There is nothing we can't help you with. All our cages are CAD designed and built in house to each car. We do not have one cage we build over and over. Every car is unique and should have a unique cage. We are able to build all the legal HP your car is capable of so you don't loose time down the straights. We have an in house suspension engineer so your suspension is not loosing you time in the corners. In short we help you go fast. Call us if you need any help or just have questions. rfreundt
For those of you interested there is a 944 with an auto power cage in it on craigslist.org in Michigan for around $2000.00. it has an engine issue but the car comes with a spare bullet. I talked to the guy that owns it and it is already gutted. That saves a ton of work believe me. I think the car is an 85 or 86 model. Now you would want to change the 5th gear at some point to one out of an 88 car. But you would also need to have an LSD put in at some time. Ray By way of introduction, Ray will be the next Midwest 944 Spec racer. He doesn't need this car because he already owns two 944's - one built on in progress. Thanks for the heads up, Ray - let's get this car into the hands of another competitor!
