bmw22
It's too bad that it is nearly impossible to buy a set of Hankooks. I tried thru several vendors and the best they could do is sell me a set of tires the MIGHT be in the country by May. it's laughable to think that Hankook wanted to be the Spec tire of GTS. Before deciding to run Hankooks, do your research. Talk to someone that runs the same size as you and find out if they are available when needed. All the Hankook Dollars in the world aren't worth squat if there isn't any tires available. While I do appreciate their offer, I would prefer they address this issue. If tires aren't available don't say that they are.
HankookMMM
Mark, you know as well as anyone that you can contact me directly and I will supply you with the best answer I can. We already received one shipment in your size that was available at CJ's Tireshoppe. (Also AIM had some) Another shipment is due to arrive in the beginning of March. Occasionally the demand for the Z214 product will far exceed supply, especially in a size that in the past has not proved popular for us. As of now, we have already ordered more tires than we sold in 2007 in the 225/45ZR15. I'll order more if the market demands it. We are very happy to supply this tire to NASA Racers. I apologize for any past supply issues, but as a growing company we are trying to develop the most competitive product possible and reward those drivers willing to use it. Many drivers are taking notice of the success of other racers using Hankook. Please be assured that if you have Hankook contingency dollars and cannot use them due to an unexpected inventory condition, I will gladly extend the expiration date. Anyone can contact me directly and I will try to respond to you in a reasonable manner with the best information I have. Just to clarify, Hankook would never attempt to become a spec tire for any class in NASA without expressed and agreed permission from the main principals of NASA Pro Racing. It is not our intent to interfere with any spec series, only to supply an alternative product to those classes that allow open tire competition in NASA. FandangoDrew
Ordered 2 sets (275/35/18) from Phil's on Friday with no problems. Talked to Jeff to get my stickers (i am making the switch from Hoosier), and I found him very helpful and he assured me that they had plenty of tires in my size
rscheiring
Jeff - any chance the 214s will come out in a 235/40/17 (which was available in the old 211s)?
HankookMMM
That is one of the sizes I had suggested that we consider when making some new sizes. As of now there are no immediate plans for additional sizes in the Z214, but that can always change as the popularity of the tire increases. What is your application? What car is it? I know that size will work on S2000's, some BMW, EVO's and WRX's.
rscheiring
Thanks Jeff. Its for an 88 E30 M3, on 17x8 Team Dynamics wheels. I hope to be running in GTS2 this year (I have my comp. school in April at Gateway).
HankookMMM
It may not be optimal, but the 245/40-17 should fit no problem on that wheel. http://www.hankooktireusa.com/product/tire_race_detail.asp?pid=
tripedee
I haven't tried Hankook, but want you to know I appreciate you coming on this website and explaining your company's situation and plans. I think I speak for virtually all racers in saying we've probably all been frustrated at one time or another for tire availability on all tire brands, so I can feel Mark's pain. I want to thank you for offering a contingency plan for us racers and based on what I've just read, will probably try a set on Hankook's in the near future. It sounds like you guys take customer service seriously!!
Damon in STL
Thanks Jeff. Its for an 88 E30 M3, on 17x8 Team Dynamics wheels. I hope to be running in GTS2 this year (I have my comp. school in April at Gateway). Cool! Another e30 M3 at the Gateway school. I'll also be running my e30 M3 in GTS2. Hi Jeff, I had planned on running the Z214s and have some setup questions regarding moving from RA-1s to the Z214s on a e30 M3. I made contact with Dave Martin from Hankook via the Hankook website and gave him all my current settings, but, the response from Dave appeared to be the same info I had found on the website regarding tire pressures and initial scuffing. I email Dave back with additional questions on 2/11 and have not heard back from him. I continued to do my research and contacted the people who I usually buy from about running the Hankooks and what setup changes I need to make to the car. To make a long story short, I'm running the F200s this year mainly because I purchased them at a closeout price and my power to weight ratio works perfectly for the slicks vs. the 214 Dot-Rs while staying in GTS2. One of my concerns is where/who can I contact to get initial setup information when moving from one tire to another? From "word of mouth" I've been able to gather setup changes when moving from RA-1s to Hoosiers....but, it would be very nice to have some guidance other than "keep your current setup and shoot for this pressure". If I hadn't gotten such a good deal on the tires (I bought three sets), I probably would have bit the bullet and went with Hoosiers. With the price I paid...I can now afford to possibly chew up a set of tires trying to figure out what the best initial setup is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm already close. Cheers, Damon in STL
eMINI
HankookMMM, Can you comment on Z214 availability for 225/50/16? Thanks!
HankookMMM
We have stock on that and more on the way coming in March. If you need them now. That is the C5(1). If you wanted the C7 or soft compound we have plenty of the C70's instock and they are discounted. FYI, C70 to C71 was a carcass improvement and slight weight reduction, the compound is unchanged. Any of our dealers can quote you on the discount for the C7 in that size.
eMINI
Thanks for the info! I'll take 4 C51's, please.

fer1979
It looks like hooiser has steped up thier program for 2008 (2 free tyres for 1st, 1 free tyre for second). Any chance hankook will match this?
HankookMMM
Carefully compare the two programs and take a look at the contingency programs for the NASA Nationals. Also you have more flexibility to use the dollars instead of just a pair of tires. I cannot make any changes to the payout. But I can increase the chances for you to claim awards. For example, you can race in GTS and also PT or TT in the same day and claim both. I need to change the wording on the forms, but it is coming. That will increase the chance to get more track time and more reward. Plus $1000 CASH for first place at the Nationals. Also if you finish third on Hoosiers, you get NOTHING. At least you can walk away with $200 Hankook dollars for coming in 3rd on a weekend. Not too shabby.

Not too shabby. Am I reading something wrong: I thought it was $100H for 3rd (or $85H if inly 4 in class) Also you have more flexibility to use the dollars instead of just a pair of tires. What else can you buy with hankook dollars other then tires?

HankookMMM
Correct Tim. Hankook dollars are not like Credit card reward points (sorry) but you can use them toward the purchase of Z212 street tires or in some cases for ship costs. Also rally tires, which may or may not be applicable to some people.
