Spec944 #143 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 So far 14 944s are registered for the Miller Race and only 2 are registered for the enduro? lets go- who doesn't want to race for two hours?????? Quote
Sterling Doc Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 If you're brining your car all the way out there, makes sense to do. I believe Ray Freundt & I are signed up. Who else? Quote
comatb Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 The 944Spec cars would be at a refueling disadvantage as the required stock fill hole is very restrictive in comparison to other classes of cars in the same race, which may be allowed to open up the nozzle restriction. Even if we were to install a fuel cell the stock fill is required under our rules. I see no reason to enter any Enduro with this handicap. We may be slow, but losing time watching fuel slowly fill the tank isn't my idea of fun! Just my .02 cents worth. Quote
Weston Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 The late cars would also be at an advantage, being that they have significantly larger fuel tanks. This could be a fun event though... my wallet just isn't able to commit to quite that much fun right now (I'm tow vehicle shopping). Quote
Chuck T. Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 IF ... If we get enought interest in the enduro we COULD run it as a class event . we could make a rule to remove the late cars advantage , and even require a ___ minute pit stop ... What ever yall want to do I'm sure Joe could make a one race set of rules to make it fun . Quote
comatb Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Chuck as you may already know, PCA uses a mandatory 5 minute pit stop in their 90 minute Enduro's. This equalizes the pit stop and leave the racing 'on track'. The 5 minutes starts at pit entrance and ends at pit out. They close the pits under a full course Yellow. The only catch is that if you happen to be in the pits at the time..... you are one lucky dog! Well I guess you can't make it perfect but it's a pretty good system. Quote

On a 2 hr race I think the late cars with 21 gal tanks can make it no stops. Early 17 gal tank cars may need to stop for 4-5 gallons or at least short shift. If you run for fun in a 2 hr race adding 5 gallons is not that bad. If we want to run that in spec format then early cars are at a clear disadvantage. Provisions would need to be made to have a fuel stop. It need not be 5 mintues as the requirement could be 5 gallons of fuel MUST be added to each 944 spec car. Simple enough. Now if you have an early car like mine (84) and want to go staight up vs other cars... We alot can happen in 2 hrs. I don't plan on running the enduro because for me a 3 day event is quite long to start with. Then being a night race I would need to mess with my headlights. I can do it, but I figure I will just sit back and watch. I can help out drivers in the pits as needed. Quote
Spec944 #143 Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 Joe- I could be wrong but...I believe no headlights will be necessary. Utah is on the western side of the mountain time zone so we have daylight well into the night. It helps us round up all the wives before we lock down the compound. Quote

Snymo Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 The enduro is scheduled for 5:30pm-7:30pm Saturday, Jun 14th. I just checked and the sunset is scheduled for 9:00pm with civil twilight reached at 9:33pm. So, even with the mountains to the west there should be plenty of light for the enduro. However, that assumes bright sunshine and clear weather. This enduro is being run under the NASA Endurance Racing Regulations which does require lights (2 headlights, 2 taillights and 2 brake lights) if the race is run "past dusk". So depending on your definition of "past dusk" you might need them if it's overly cloudy or otherwise bad weather. From past experience at Miller, once it gets dark it's really dark. At the first ALMS race at Miller the drivers were freaking out about how little they could see. They complained so much that the track managers had to go out and buy reflective tape which was added to all the curbing around the track (inside and outside) so that drivers could see where the track went. Chuck T. Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 Your so smart Rick ! or at least your good at searching and that makes you look smart ! Quote

944-Spec#94 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Dark at 9:30pm... that is crazy. Arizona never changes time zones so we get dark about 8pm even in the middle of summer. Of course around here in summer we can't wait for the sun to go down to break the heat. Quote
Utah944 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 There is no excuse for not running the enduro. if you are worried about competetiveness as Chuck mentioned we can make some tweaks so all 944s are on level ground. come on 2 hours of fun. we need 35 cars registered to have one and I really want to experience running for two hours.
