Enzo Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I am currently building a roll cage for my 944 S2 which I plan to run in GTS2 this upcoming season. I have a technical question about the roll cage. Does anyone know who the correct person is to ask? Basically I need to know if its OK to use 1.25" tubing to connect the upper and lower door bars on the drivers side. The 2 main horizontal door bars are 1.75" x .095" like the rest of the cage. Connecting the 2 door bars vertically are (3) short tubes - 1.25" dia (approx 6" long). Is this legal? I can send a pic if there is someone out there that can make an official ruling on this. Thanks! Enzo Quote
tonysenese Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 from a previous post.... "NASCAR Bars" is a generic term rather than a direction to look in a NASCAR rulebook. The racing community knows that means bars that extend outward to provide for side crash protection. That is why the rulebook says NASCAR "style". Generally for our type of cars we want to see at least 2 horizontal bars with vertical support bars. If you were unaware of that term then you did the right thing to ask and get the information. _________________ Ryan Flaherty National Chairman soooo. the CCR's do not specify this tubing, but do say that the cage must be made of certain diameter and wall thickness for certain class and weights. As a tech inspector I am much more concerned with the main hoop, and the horizontal bars than those tubes and since the rules are vague I would think smaller tubing is fine, but this area allows interpretation, and if I was you I would get 1.75 x .095 tube for the supports. Enzo Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 I have since cut-out the 1.25" vertical tubes and replaced with 1.75x.095" just to avoid any more confusion / frustration over this issue....probably safer anyhow. Quote
tonysenese Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Probably the easiest thing. BTW southeast Michigan must be a heck of a place to find miata's..... NOT. My family is in Coldwater, Homer area and my grandad ran a junkyard and raced at dirt tracks all around there and northern Indiana, when I was growing up. Hope to see ya around! Tony Senese Quote
kbrew8991 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 my interpretation of the CCR regarding this (as a Regional PT Director) is that only the required bars (main hoop, 2 door bars, main hoop rear supports, a-pillar supports) need to be of the stipulated size. I want to say there was a section that said the non-required/optional bars could be smaller or larger... best to grill your regional tech guy about it, he's going to be the one that will either issue or not issue you a logbook Quote
