commutercar Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I am looking for a recommendation for a suspension set up. I know many people ask the same question. But what I am seeking is not a race car set up. I am here because if I posted this question somewhere else I probably get advice by some teenager. This car is my daily driver and will be my driving school car(evolution, bmwcca, etc). My goal is to become a better driver and grow with the car making improvements as I go along and attend track events(nothing hardcore) eventually leading me to purchase a dedicated race car. I don't know enough to piece suspension parts that work together. So here I am. The car is a 1989 civic si with a b18 series motor. The previous owner installed neuspeed race spring with koni yellows(sp3). The spring perch on the strut body has been set on the highest ring. The main issue is the ride height is still a bit too low for driving through certain sections in town which has convinced me to look for a different springs. Please help. thanks Quote
slammed_93_hatch Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 It sounds like you have the neuspeed suspension package. The springs are made by neupseed and the koni's are made specifically for neuspeed, hence the SP3 designation they get at the end of their serial number, yours look something like this 8041-xxxSP3. Neuspeed has a few different sets of springs but it sounds like your car has the "race" springs which are a decent drop. You have a few options, you can get something from H&R or Eibach that just lowers you slightly, and you would probably move the snap ring down one rung. Or you could get Ground Control coil overs, and set the height exactly were you want it. The simpler and cheaper solution is to pick up a set of H&R sport springs, or Eibach sport lines. Quote
commutercar Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Would buying a spring set made for a regular civic be ok since I have a heavier b-series motor? Also you suggested I lower the perch one ring. Is there a reason for this? You are correct about the neuspeed package being on the car. I was thinking about getting a eibach pro kit or h&r oe kit. From my research they are similar in lbs per inch. I am just worried they would be too soft. Too bad there are no refunds. Quote
ekim952522000 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Progress sells springs that are for cars with swaps. http://www.sportcompactonly.com/Lowering-Springs/Coilovers-Springs/Suspension/part_c-38_pl-911_p-39618.htm Quote
slammed_93_hatch Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I suggest lowering the perch with the other springs because the highest circlip isn't the one that it comes on, at least i don't think. If it is were the circlip comes then i would leave it there. If you would like a 'stiffer' setup, the ground control coilovers sound like a better option. I would get 8 inch front spring and 7 inch rear, instead of the 7"front 7"rear the kit comes with. The swap doesn't really back that big of a different. The weight difference between a B series swap and a D series swap is around 45lbs. I think Ground control increases front spring rate but 50lbs if you have a swapped car and request them. Quote
