Downey177 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Hey Brandon, Really, really great to hear from you. So glad you're OK. You scared the c@#$ out of all of us yesterday. We were all dumb struck. I was really worried when I saw the MedEvac helicopter fly overhead. We got some pics of it for you.... Graham called me on the way home and said you called from the hospital, man, what a relief!! You're absolutely right on the safety gear. You've got the best setup car for safety on the grid, and now we see why. I think you're own scrutiny and focus on safety gear saved your own life...good for you man.... and a lesson for all the rest of us. Get well soon, we need you back out there with the rest of the H1 guys. Let us know what we can do to help to get you back on the track. Mike Lock, great gesture on you behalf yesterday. Everyone was taking about your frantic attempts to attrack the safety and officials...good job man! Liam Quote
racedoc1 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Hey Brandon, Just found out that you had a major shunt yesterday when I checked out the forums today. I hope you have a speedy recovery so we can have you back on the track!!! My wife is a physician so if you need to get checked out sometime soon let me know. -Robert HC1 #59 Quote
Lenna Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I am both happy and relieved to hear that nothing is broken and that you will make a full recovery. Having a front row seat to the incident took a few years off of my life. Mike Locke showed great character in his actions following the incident. He was very concered for your well being. Best Wishes! Quote
AustinG Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I'm glad that you're okay enough to TYPE EVERYTHING, AND WE NEED TO GET YOU A NEW MONITOR. Brandon, I was putting on my suit to head out to my session when I looked over in time to see you flying through the air, it scared the crap out of me, and seeing the amount of arm waving that Mike was trying to do in order to get the medics out to you really had a lot of us worried. I think that the video that Mike Lock had was confiscated by Race Control for review of the incident. Get better man, and I'm glad that it's just a bunch of bruises and you're sore, you sure gave a lot of us a big scare. Austin Quote
jmeris Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Glad to hear the news from you-that you're ok!! That was a scary sight. Props to whomever built your cage. Hope you recover quickly and hope to see you on the track soon, bro! jmeris Quote

stealth430 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I was working in timing and I saw the own accident evolved in front of my eyes. Ken Kurtz from Safety 1 Truck was sitting next to me when I screamed "oh sh**t, FLIP FLIP FLIP!". He was out the door before I could finish my sentence. Brandon, your car was sideway and slightly airborned right after the crest and then the it just went bad from there. So glad to see that you are ok, it was a scary stint. On the topic of glass injuries. Recall the flying object that went through our windshield at the 25hr? I think we are approaching speed where we as racers should be given a choice on using lexan for safety reasons. If the weight reduction is such a worry for some, then I would be glad to throw on the weight to make up for the lexan. Quote
ekim952522000 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 ..........I think we are approaching speed where we as racers should be given a choice on using lexan for safety reasons........... This is the second time I have seen this be brought up in the last few weeks if Lexan is safer than I'm all for it. I think the safer we can make are sport the better. Quote
Andrie Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Tommy, in your case, I don't think Lexan will make any difference. In Brandon case, yes, because of the glass won't get to his eye. Have you driven one with Lexan or Polycarbonate? I hated it, have sun glare and you have to be very cautious when cleaning it up. As everytime you clean it up you will introduce fine scratches and it will be even more prone to glare. Quote
ekim952522000 Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Good points Andrie I have never driven a car with a lexan front window. Quote
1slocrx Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I was thinking what about the idea of using window tint film on the inside.....they have a "clear" film which is only something like 5% light reduction.....and it possibly could keep the glass more intact during those types of situations....also is easier to clean without introducing scratches... just an idea? anybody try this already? AustinG Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Well, Brandon's shield went up which is why the glass ended up in his eyes, if the shield didn't go up he wouldn't have gotten the glass in them...not sure which helmet he has, or how he had the shield set, but the protection afforded by the shield failed him. I know that the two helmets I have, the shield wont go up unless I really try to get it to move up and over the metal post. I'm sure that you're still fairly sore Brandon, but I do hope that your have a quick recovery. Quote
BrianZ Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 With the forces that were generated in the crash I would bet your shield would open too! Don't get fooled into thinking just because the shield is closed you wont get stuff in your eyes. Add the mix if broken glass and then roll there is a good chance that glass could have gone under the helmet. I don't know the properties of lexan or plastic windshields of when they brake, but I do like the idea of a clear tint on the inside of the windshield. Kenji Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Brandon, I just read about your incident. I'm glad you're ok. Hope you make a speedy recovery. Its a sobering reminder to me about the dangers of this hobby, but glad the safety equipment worked as designed. Quote
National Staff Jeremy C. Posted March 18, 2008 National Staff Posted March 18, 2008 Brandon, it's a relief to know your doing alright. I hope you make a speedy recovery and you can get back on track as soon as you want to! Quote

I have don't have this on windshield, but I did have window tint on my door glass a few years ago. I run a 944 and the PO tinted the window years ago. I removed all, but the door glass since we run windows down. Well I got into a minor incident and my pass side door got hit. Later on when looking at the car and fixing the door I noticed that the window tint did a nice job of keeping alot of the smaller glass parts together. There were still alot of small pieces, but alot held together. However it may be best to have the clear film on both ends to best maintain the pieces. Even then however in nasty incident I would NOT expect it to keep all glass contained. Quote
