MadConan Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I finished rebuilding all my calipers this week. The rear ones seem fine. However, when I put the front ones on, the frames end up rubbing the rotors. There seems to be too much play between the floating frame (outer most piece) and the mounting frame (piece that bolts to the hub) so that the spring guide ends up tilting the floating frame too much and it rubs against the rotor. I can move the floating frame in and out (like it should) but it rubs in all positions. When I looked at the instructions, nothing indicated that you have to keep the 3 pieces (piston housing, floating and mounting frames) matched up, so I just mixed and matched. Even if I had kept them together, I would think the play would still remain, and in fact one floating frame would have been too tight. However both front calipers suffer from the same problem right now. Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks! Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Sounds like they are not assembled correctly. Quote
schwank Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Yeah... When I took the things apart for the first time last winter I had a bit of a time getting them back together properly so that everything fit. Too me quite a bit of playing around to get them full lined up. Quote
dwinger Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 The bleeders are not pointing upwards rather than downwards by chance are they? If so rotate each piston 180 degrees and press them back into their frames. I have seen this before. Dean Quote

I've looked at these a hundred times and can't figure it out. If someone doesn't know the answer, my next step is to just try various combinations of parts (cylinder housing + mounting frame + floating frame). Quote
rd7839 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I had this same issue, and took them apart a few times to see if they were together wrong. I also cleaned them up but still had the same problem. However after a few hard stops they didn't rub as much, and after a race weekend, they aren't rubbing anymore. I don't know if this is the way to fix them but it worked for me. Quote
