Longacre battery disconnect help

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me wire my Longacre battery disconnect. The diagram that came with it are pretty vague and seem to be completely different than the help at 944 spec.org. So I was hoping someone that has used this with a 944 could tell me how to wire it. Thanks.

Is this a 2 pole switch ? If so you are only going to break the circuit and be unable to prevent the alt surging.

No it's the 4 terminal one that is to be used with an alternator.

What part of the instructions on the spec site won't work with your switch -- I'll try and help (I wrote the spec article). Or what on the longacre instructions is confusing -- (you'll need to type them all in (don't paraphrase) as I dont know what they say)

What I'm confused about is on the spec sight your instructions use the wire to the coil and the information that Longacre provides uses a wire from the alternator. You can see the Longacre instructions here: http://www.longacreracing.com/instructions/inst.asp?instid=84

I understand your instructions but don't know if I can connect my switch that way since it doesn't have a resistor. Thanks for your help.

OK I did some reading of the Longacre instructions and a bit more research.

The wire that Longacre shows as breaking the alternator connection is what you would use for the coil wire in our cars, however it does NOT allow for the surge from the alt when the switch is used.

If you look at the pictures of the switch I used you'll note I have 4 small terminals not just 2.

You could use the switch as is but I suggest that you return the one you have and get a 6 pole

CDOC has one that has the instructions shown here http://store.cdoc.com/itemfiles/KillSwitchInstall.pdf. The one I used is like http://www.patrickmotorsports.com/part/551/ (But I really don't remember where I got mine)

There is a thread on Pelican (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=347044) that has links to other threads on the wiring of kill switches.
