MarkC Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Thank you to all of the competitors as it was another fun and successful weekend. Thanks again to Andy Sutak who let us camp again at his trailer. The Results have been posted at http://nasa-tt.com/Norcal_Regional_Results/p2047_articleid/100. The Standings have been updated at http://nasa-tt.com/Norcal_Standings. The track records have also been updated at http://nasa-tt.com/Norcal_Track_Records. The story is as follows: The latest NorCal Time Trial event was March 8-9 at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA. You could not have asked for a better weekend for racing; around 72° F, great competition in all groups, and great grassroots competition. We had some veterans’ come out and some newbies who ran with us for the first time who could not stop talking about how much fun it was to be in TT. Again we had records fall with Team Sutak setting a blazing 1:56.957 in his 2004 Mustang. In TTB Team Bill Arnold BMW Repair bettered the record with a 2:01.274 in his 1998 BMW M3. The rest of the weekend played out as follows: TTR With PRC running with NASA this weekend we had some really fast Porsche’s in this TTR group. Piloting her ’75 Porsche 911 to her first win of the year was Donna Sylvonovich with a time of 2:00.572 and Neil Yonk finishing second in his Red 1973 911 with a time 2:02.152. Rod Rojas finished on the podium with a third place and Team Grabaldi getting fourth with their extremely low AI prepped 1989 Mustang. Sunday saw Neil Yonk get first place with a 2:03.320 with Richard Vijeh in his 1993 BMW 325is pulling a time of 2:06.866. TTU This group had a bunch of fast and beautiful cars. The win on Saturday went to Gerry Gasber in his bright yellow 2006 Z06 with a time of 1:58.337. Right behind him was Team Sutak in his 04 Mustang with a time of 1:59.245. Getting the third spot was Igor Lyustin with a time of 2:01.050 in his high-powered Acura NSX. Fourth place went to Team GST/GOTO Racing in his 1996 Subaru Impreza L, which had an engine grenade on him coming down the front stretch that produced a tremendous amount of smoke. Lowell Fennie in his beautiful Baby Blue 04 FFR Spec Cobra met the tires in turn 12-13 Saturday morning. Showing the great competitor he is, he found another car to drive to get fifth and continued to hang out for the weekend with the TT group. Sunday saw Team Sutak set the fast time of the weekend and the track record in TTU with a blazing 1:56.957 to get the win. Second place went to Gerry Gasber with a 1:58.021. Getting the bronze was Lowell Fennie in his backup car. TTS Saturday saw Team Buttafoco/Howard take the gold with a time of 2:01.546 in his 2005 Evo and Team Smith right behind in his 1993 Mustang setting a lap of 2:04.858. Getting third place was Yang Tang with a time of 2:04.876 in his Evo. Getting fourth place was Team Yearbook in their 1992 Mustang with Dave Wheaton as the driver getting behind the wheel of the car for the first time on Saturday morning. Rounding out the group was Lou LaCourte who was in a back up Lotus due to blowing his motor on Friday practice. Sunday saw a change with Yang Tang getting first with a 2:02.689 and Team Smith copying Saturday with his second place finish only .2 second behind. Getting third was Team Buttafoco/Howard and Team Yearbook rounding out the group in fourth. The way TTS in going, the championship will go down to the last event, maybe even the last lap, I know it will be exciting to watch. TTA TTA was a battle between the 2 top drivers in the standings, Team Callaghan in his 1966 Mustang and Dave Potter in his 2006 Porsche Cayman S. Each driver had a stronger point on the track than the other and it made for close times crossing the line. Saturday saw Dave Potter pick up his first win of the year with Team Callaghan getting the silver. Sunday saw a reverse finishing order with Team Callaghan getting the gold and Dave Potter getting the silver. TTB This weekend we should have renamed TTB to TTBMW. This is another group that is going to come down to the final lap of the season to determine the championship. Getting a good start is Team Bill Arnold BMW Repair in his ‘98 BMW M3 by taking first with a time of 2:01.275, which broke the track record. Right behind was Mark Welch ’88 BMW M3 only .241 seconds behind. Getting third was newcomer Anthony Zwain in his 1987 BMW 325is with a time of 2:05.127. Fourth place belongs to Ed Rogers in his ’02 BMW M3 right behind Anthony. Tasha Standridge rounds out the group in her 95 BMW M3 just missing the 2:07 range with a time of 2:08.003. Sunday saw Mark Welch make up some points with a first place finish with a time of 2:02.204. Second place was Anthony Zwain posting a time of 2:04.102. The final podium spot belongs to Tasha Standridge with a 2:08.484. TTC Team Z Car Garage is making a statement in TTC by getting first on Saturday to make it 2 in a row in his 4 door Infinity with a time of 2:09.482. Second place went to Michael Sondel in his 1982 Porsche 911 SC with a time of 2:10.468. Third place belongs to Joseph Ramirez with a time of 2:12.364. Sunday saw a change at the top with Joseph Ramirez getting the first win of the year in his ’07 Honda S2000 pulling a lap of 2:09.411. Less than .3 seconds behind was Team Z Car Garage getting second. TTD Saturday saw new comer Paul Geddings in his Mercedes ’85 190E claim first place with a time of 2:11.372 and second place going to Chuck Krause in 1995 BMW 325is with a time of 2:12.593. Third place went to Will Faules with a lap 2:14.759 in his 1979 Mazda RX7. Rounding out the group was Ray Nickson in his 1990 VW GTI 2:21.260. Sunday saw Paul Geddings complete the weekend sweep with a time of 2:09.874 and second place going to Paul Gorgeson in his ’85 Porsche Carrera.
