Blackbird222 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 I'm building a Locost 7 and trying to fit into the ST2 rules. I'm trying to see what's acceptable as aero of the stock Lotus / Caterham. In recent models Caterham did some minor aero tweeks on the 7 but still nothing like a fully aero modded car, I imagine that because it's the way the car comes stock that it shouhd still fit within the non-aero-modded point credit but thought I'll make sure before I do anything. Here are the items in question - The CSR has a revised nose with slightly deeper cut that may serve as a small airdam, also the front fenders are shaped with better flow detachment in mind (note the top corner behind the wheel) - The Superlight R500 has tiny winglets on the nose - What's the official take? Thanks! Moti Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted January 10, 2009 National Staff Posted January 10, 2009 No winglets/canards without the aero mod factor. The fenders look ok. We won't change the classing because of the front part of the nose. Quote
Blackbird222 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks for the reply. I have to ask though, since stock 7's are allowed in the ST-SU field, if a stock 7 came with the winglets why would you apply aero mod factor to it? It isn't modded. When I'm thinking aero modding this is what I see in mind - Moti Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted January 10, 2009 National Staff Posted January 10, 2009 Because we didn't class them with winglets. It looks like Caterham has built some later models/non-base models with the winglets. Quote
Blackbird222 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Fair enough. I'm trying to see what can be done within the rules, those winglets sure aren't worth moving from ST2 to ST1 . Thanks again! Moti Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted January 10, 2009 National Staff Posted January 10, 2009 Hey Moti, I'm glad to see that you are finally coming over to play with us! Quote
Blackbird222 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Not yet, I'm still building, but recently the project has been switched from the back burner to full afterburners and I'm banging stuff away . Building the car from scratch means it may take some time, but you'll see me dropping the average amount of cylinders per car in the field to 7.8 for sure! Moti Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted January 10, 2009 National Staff Posted January 10, 2009 Bring the Turbo Miata out so you can get points from the start of the season. Do you still have it? Quote
Blackbird222 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Here it is ! It was my donor car for the running gear in the locost. I'm not too worried about points this season, it's the next season that I'd like to get points for . Moti Quote
