cosm3os
I don't understand the opposition to this. I'm going to be a rookie this year and anything that will allow me and everyone else to focus a little more on what's going on would be a great help. Has nothing to do with knowing who's in my class. What's the skin off your back to have a piece of colored tape on your wind screen? No skin off my back at all, if required to do it I would. But I see it as the equivalent of putting an R and an L on my shoes so I know which one goes where. Just not necessary. By the time a car is close enough to me to see the color of their tape, if I have not identified them yet I probably should not be racing. Should I quit racing before I start then? No, you should simply focus on developing race craft skills and race strategy. A piece of tape won't help you do that. As a national TTD champ, you are obviously very fast and you know your lap times on a particular track. Now check out mylaps to see where your class is. During practice and quali, see who is near you and identify who you will be racing in close quarters with, both in and out of class. When you get to the grid you'll find that you really aren't racing that many people. There are probably slow guys you'll never see and fast ones you'll never see. Focus on who matters and learn what their cars look like and what their driving style is like. You mention creating awareness, that starts long before the race does. I guarantee that looking for the 3000 lb red BMW is more effective than looking for the piece of blue tape on the windshield. If I am approaching you and are looking at the tape on my windshield before deciding to defend your position or not, I will already be past you. Looking for tape will hurt your awareness, not help it. Take away the crutch and learn to ID cars before the green flag drops.
rbrumm
Jakermc, very well said.......... I too will be on the track this year as a GTS3 rookie. and with all that will be going on, I 'm sure I will miss the little colored stripe. As you said . know before you go Rick #91 GTS3 911 Rookie
RSCoupe
The colored banner/stripe was not just for the racers to to differentiate classes, it was also for the spectators. The old GTS class stickers were pretty small and hard to see at a distance. The new ones should be easier to see, and for those that do their own, as long as they're big enough, it shouldn't be a problem.
