Cory M Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 A friend of mine has a 924 that is is gradually converting to 944spec. He is considering one of the Hanksville rollcage kits. Is there any difference in the 944 & 924 chassis with regards to the cage fit? I'm assuming the 944 cage kit will fit the 924 fine but I want to make sure. Thanks. Quote
genikz Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I can't speak from experience with Hank's cages, but it's my understanding that the 924/924S/944/951 chassis is nearly identical throughout the years. My brother's '78 924 chassis looks identical to my '88 chassis. Quote
GaryM05 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I don't know the answer to your question, but I know that you can go straight to the source and get a quick answer. Why not give Hank a call at 303.470.1850 and ask? He's pretty easy to get on the phone. Alternatively, you could email him at [email protected]. My experience is that he's just as easy to get in touch with either way, and responds to emails very quickly. Quote
Chuck T. Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 944-spec is having a build party at Hanksville Hotrods this Sunday . I know Chris is bringing his 924S and Hank has a 944 at the shop . Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 the 924S tub and early 944 tub are darn near identical. The difference is in the fenders. The late 944 tub is a little different, but not where the cage goes. As for the 2.0L 924 tubs I assume they are the same inside as the early 944 except for fenders, but I can't say for sure. The cars did get heavier over the years so the 924 Tub may be thinner in spots. You are probably fine where the cage will mount. Quote
Cory M Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll pass the info along to my buddy. Quote
National Staff Hank P. Posted January 23, 2009 National Staff Posted January 23, 2009 Hi, Cory. Depending on the year, there may be small non-structural interior differences between the 924 and the 944, such as small brackets or tabs that become visible after the interior and dash are removed. However, for purposes of cage fitment in a race car, the interior sheetmetal and structure of the cars are identical. Hope this helps; please feel free to call or email me if you'd like to discuss further. Thanks! Hank Quote
Sterling Doc Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Just to be clear, if he's building for for 944 Spec, only the '87-'88 924S is legal. The earlier non-S chassis is not... Good luck with the build, and let us know if we can help! Quote
