jerseybrandon
Hi all, I am looking for some input on choosing the best tire for my dollar. First things first, I can not afford to race on Hoosiers based on useable life and the initial cost. The sizes I am shopping for are 225, 235, or 245 in 40 or 45 aspect ratio for a 17" rim. The usage will be 20-25 lap sprint races, and also hillclimbs. So I need something that will not "go away" later in the sprint races and will last for several race weekends, and also provide some grip for the hillclimbs which are short and typically tires do not get to the right temp. So with that said, I have narrowed down my choices to hankook Z214's, Toyo RA1's (if I can find some), or Nitto NT01's. In the board member's humble opinion's, which of these from your experience provide the best compromise between cost/life and grip? The vehicle these are intended for is a Subaru STi, weighing 3,000lbs making a little more than 300whp. Thanks for reading, Brandon

National Staff Greg G. Posted January 31, 2009 National Staff Share Posted January 31, 2009 The RA-1's are likely to last for what you have planned. The Nitto's would not last as long as the RA-1's, and the Z214's would be the worst. If you were only talking about one weekend of racing, reverse that list for the fastest to slowest list.
