AMorgan Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I'm working on building up a '98 Prelude for H2 competition sometime in the not too distant future, but for now i'm focusing on key mods, weight reduction and seat time. My question pertains to the use of strut bars on the car. The bars I want to use have a typical front bar that connects the two towers togetherand a rear bar that is the same, but has a built in X-Brace that comes down at an angle to tie into the frame at the back of the trunk area using 4 bolts, basically tieing the towers to two additional points on the frame. Is this type of bar legal or would I need to get one that only connects the towers together? Given the price of the rear bar in the 4 point configuration, i'd prefer not to buy twice. Any help would be great, thanks. I read over the rule and just became uncertain, so any help would be much appreciated. Quote
slammed_93_hatch Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 i would say yes. You could do the same with the cage, so i don't see why it wouldn't be legal Quote
AMorgan Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Hrm, an interesting thought. Was hoping to hear a few more responses. If you happen to know for sure please let me know. The car is going to run some HPDEs for a bit first, but I don't want to redo the suspension when I move it over to HC. Quote
slammed_93_hatch Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 well this is very openly worded and is the only thing that relates to "strut" bars in the rule book. k) Cars may add stayrod(s) between the shock towers and/or lower suspension mounting points. Note: All suspension parts must retain their original attachment points at the chassis, and the suspension must maintain its original design and function. Ehhh i don't really know now... sounds like the part attaching the 2 shocks towers is legal but there is NO mention of the "stayrods" connecting to the fram. It says they may be added between the shock towers and or lower suspension mount points. It does not say any were that you can have it attach to the frame too or to the fire wall. But you could do it with a cage... Maybe an oversite, im not sure. Just to be sure this is what you are talking about right Rear http://passwordjdm.com/PasswordJDM-4-Point-Rear-Strut-Tower-Bar-DC2-P1117C4.aspx Front http://passwordjdm.com/PasswordJDM-3-Point-Front-Strut-Tower-Bar-DCEGEK-Limited-Edition-Black-P2594C4.aspx I don't see those as being legal, as the rules stand. You can do what those do with your cage though. Quote
AMorgan Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 It's not the password bars, but same basic idea. I think it may fall under the "if it's not explicitly stated" clause and isn't legal from what i'm reading. I guess more wishful thinking than anything (I was going to have the cage go back there too). Oh well, cage alone will have to do the trick. Quote
