Fletch Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Registered for HPDE-1 at CMP on March 7 & 8. I was told that I could show up Friday the 6th and get teched between 1-8pm. Could I setup on the paddock then or will I have to wait till SAT. I also live close to the track will it be safe to leave my trailer/car locked up there overnight for the Sun event? Any experienced drivers give a first-timer some suggestions etc? Quote
drumbeater Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 You can leave everything there on Friday. I leave all my stuff, but sometimes I take my toolbox with me, but everyone tells me I'm paranoid, that things never "grow legs" at the track. DB Quote
Lucid Moments Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm not certain about tech, but I'm working the enduro on friday and hopeing to get teched at the end of the day. I normally leave all my stuff at the track at then end of the day and don't worry about it at all. There are enough people out there that I just don't feel its an issue. See you out there. Quote

Best time to stake out a spot actually. If you wait till Sat morn you will be scrambling around. We leave cars, gear, tires, etc at the track from Fri when we drop it off till Sun when we leave. Basically no one hauls their gear in Sat, then back in again Sun. It's generally a very safe environment to leave stuff, especially if you take a minute to meet your neighbors. Quote
mcmmotorsports Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I have heard of problems of tools and equipment growing legs back in my NASCAR short track days, but here with the NASA crowd, you really have nothing to worry about. Heck, I trust these guys with my life out on the track, why not with a $150 floor jack. Quote

Tech is the LAST thing to sweat over. Just print out the tech inspection form, fill it out making sure YOU inspect everything on the checklist and that is pretty much it. As long as you filled it out correctly, inspected everything to make sure you and your car are compliant, you have nothing to worry about. You will have the full support of the SE region so if any questions come up, just ask ANYBODY. If someone doesn't have an answer, they will direct you to someone that will. You will have a great time! Quote
jason Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Welcome to your new addiction. Last chance. Run while you can. Take up something cheaper and more socially acceptable. Hookers and blow is still a popular route. Quote
Fletch Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Many people have told me that Jason! I'm ready for the perma-grin. Quote

I leave all my stuff, but sometimes I take my toolbox with me, but everyone tells me I'm paranoid, that things never "grow legs" at the track. DB I think this is called, "why tempt them." Especially in today's uncertain economy. Meanwhile, I have always trusted leaving stuff at the track. But I had one episode that started me locking stuff up. Several years ago we gave a DE. We had all the t-shirts sitting on a table - while the participants were in their morning track meeting. One mother and son decided to help themselves to 6 t-shirts. We found out about it, and demanded them back. The mother was teaching her son that it was alright to steal and lie about it. We got back the shirts - but it left a bad taste. The "mother" told me -- how VIR gives out free t-shirts to everyone who is there... sure, lady and thank you!!! Among our own guys - I've never heard of anything disappearing - lots borrowed (with permission) and always returned. Quote
Fletch Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 Best time I've had with my clothes on! I had a great time at CMP for my first NASA track event. I'm certainly addicted. I had a minor braking issue Saturday got it straightened out then Sunday cracked the crank so I was done. Still had one heck of a time thought can't wait to get back to the track. I'll probably miss Atlanta but will be back at CMP in May. Not sure if I can wait that long however I need the time for some car issues anywho. Thanks again for all the advice.
