SpecIT Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I am interested! More details? I am in North Carolina and am in HPDE @ NASA Mid-Atlantic (VIR). Looking for a track car that I can continue to learn with and maybe move in the Spec 944 if I decide to race. Right now just into having fun. Pictures? Quote
944 cup Posted March 25, 2009 Author Posted March 25, 2009 The car sold yesterday. Have another that 944 Cup car that will post later today or tomorrow. Same price range, great looking car that is well equipped, but not a spec candidate. Quote
SpecIT Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I admit that I am new to this but I must ask why is it not a Spec car candidate? Quote
jaje Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 It is not a Spec car candidate as only 2.5 8v cars are allowed in the Spec series (basically '83 - '88 8v n/a 944s only and 87-88 924S only). The '89 n/a 944 8v is a 2.7 liter motor so more powerful but Cup series has a wider allowance for 944s which the '89 can run in. You could always sell the 2.7 motor and by a 2.5 8v on the cheap and be legal for both Spec and Cup. Guys looking to build big turbo 944s will pay for a 2.7 motor especially the head as it has bigger valves allowing more CFM through. Quote
SpecIT Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Of course as I progress through HPDE and maybe stay at 3 or TT, it is of no concern. It looks to me like purchasing that kind of car, I have a whole range of options and if I decide to compete, I can go Cup as is, or Spec with an engine change or I could add a large turbo to that platform. Have I understood correctly? Thank you for the help as I am trying to learn a bit here. Quote

Check the cage as the 944 Spec rules are much more restrictive than Cup on this. No you can't just bolt on a turbo to run in Super Cup. Besides the legalities the compression would be way too high for the engine. This car sounds like a very good price and would work well for your intended purposes. It was built for 944 Cup and only if you decided to run a different class would you need to change it. Good luck and have fun. Quote
