JWL Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 How much do you want to spend? If $ is no object, you can find really nice forged stuff from Fikse, CCW, and Forgeline that will be lighter and stronger than the cast wheels you've listed. You can also get those guys to get you custom offsets to put the wheel just where you want it and if you go with a 3-piece wheel you can also have nice servicability when you bend something. -JWL Quote
ST#97 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 What is the best for opentracking? any ideas Thanks Jay Since you asked....not a 600hp mustang with expensive consumables.... The enkei's work just fine, just check your offsets or run spacers....you can also get them nearly anywhere in a matter of days if you mess one up....calling CCW to order parts is expensive and takes time. Holster Maker Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Concerning the 17" Enkei's. The 17/9.5's won't fit over the Bembos. The 9's will clear by 1/8" with 5/8" spacers. All the rears will fit over normal calipers. These would work fine for open-tracking and are lite (16 lbs). Get 9's and spacer for the front and 10's+ for the rear. The 18" tires are just too much money for open tracking imho. If you decide to race, go with Hoosiers and re-think your wheel sizes. The problem was the diff off-sets between the 9 and 9.5 I also had to machine down a 3/4" solid spacer to make a 5/8th spacer. or........ forget all this and buy big fenders from Paul and big wheels from JWL's list. How big is your wallet? But don't mortage your house.........like some others. Quote

Actually, because I am such a hacker I used to bend up CCW's now and again. Whenever I did, I just called John Purner and he often would send stuff to me on Southwest air freight wherever I happened to be and it was usually pretty reasonable. With that said, I'm sure the Enkei's are fine for HPDE use but it's never too early to begin toking up the go-fast crackpipe with the really good stuff... -JWL Quote
Steel Ankles Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 I agree I would rather stay with 17"s for cheaper tires and this thing chews them fast and car is like 99% track car nowdays. Thanks for the info the 17" enkeis. I wonder if the 18"s would clear with no spacer though. i would like to keep the wheels under $1500, i dont want to mess around with spacers for the wheels unless i could run a 10.5 wide wheel on the front NT01's 275/4017 315/35/17 (running now) Want to buy Hoosiers next not sure which is better R6 or A6 or how long they last compared to each other. I just replaced my 2 piston cobra pbrs, to 4 piston Cobra R Brembo 13" brakes. Changed rear 10.5" gt brakes to 11.65" cobras also changed master cylinder from 1 1/16 to 1" and bought Carbotech xb12/xb10 brake pads trying to get it to stop better Now just trying to get wheels that will clear and work well for the track. I have been thinking about buying fr500 wheels only $560 for set of 4 but heavy compared to other wheels and they should clear brakes with no spacer. How much does lightweight wheels really help? Is it worth $1000 Thanks for your time fellas Quote
ST#97 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 How much does lightweight wheels really help? Is it worth $1000 Thanks for your time fellas Well, I continue to run the heaviest wheels of anyone in our region in AI, and I continue to win... The konig villians from Maximum will clear easily and are cheap. I am sure a 16lb wheel would help, especially losing 20lbs off my car in a heartbeat would be great, but I ain't buying more parts till I start falling off the podium and we get these 888's figured out. runningmole Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 I have 03 Cobras on my 93 GT. They're not light, but they clear the Brembos. Quote
Steel Ankles Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 I have been thinking about ordering a set of enkei rpf1's for my 95 GT 1999 Spindles MM Full kit Cobra R Brakes 18x9.5 front 18x10.5 rear 15mm offset F and R F backspacing 5.8" R Backspacing 6.3" they will clear the brembos, I have seen pics of guy running this size on 1999 and up new egde design. I wonder if there fenders are wider on new edge 99 and up, than a sn95 car? Just dont want to buy them and they dont clear fenders:( Quote
Holster Maker Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 99-04 fenders are wider. Are you doing this for ai or aix or just open track? Quote
foraye Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Has it been confirmed that the FR500 17X9 will clear the 00 Brembo's? Thanks Quote
