E_F_9 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 ok so im new here and am very interested in the HC. I have been looking all over the internet getting answers to my questions and its very confusing, all the classes rules what you can and cant do..I have every intention of going to the track and learning everything i can. Im not a noob to hondas by far, pretty much just to nasa. I have a 89 civic hatch "STD" without a title that i plan using. Now im very confused with all the classes and such which has put a hold on the build for the car. Staying d-series,stock or not what options for classes do i have?If i decide to swap it where will this put me?Also which class should i go for in my region,im in texas?Any input would be greatly appreciated. John A Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Good place to start would be the rules. Have you read them yet? Quote
ekim952522000 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 What is the most popular class in your region? H1,H2 or H4? Quote
mikeski38 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Best input, buy an already built car, figure out what you like and don't like about it, get some ideas for your own car before you spend double to triple the money to build one yourself. Your car being a std civic is a bummer cause the engine is useless for HC. You would have to do a swap regardless of the class you choose. Figure out what your weekend budget is going to be. I would say costs are, H4 $650-750, H2 $700-$900, and H1 you are looking at $950+ per weekend to run. You can always spend more, those are ballpark low figures to field a reasonably competative car. LoBuk 517 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 The Civic Standard is currently classed in H5. Like everyone else has said you are better off buying an already built car. Contact other HC drivers in your area and find out what class is populated and build for that class if you want a lot of people to race with. Quote

I dont really wanna buy a built car because i dont think i would have as much confidence in it as if i built it myself. Not saying i can build a car better than other people, just that i would know everyting single thing about the car. Quote
slammed_93_hatch Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 buy a built race car for CHEAP then go through it and replace/check/rebuild anything that doesn't look "right". You will still end up spending 75% of what it would cost you to build it from scratch. Just make sure the cage is good and you like it. Quote
dapaspy Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Listen to these guys. The make good points. Every book on getting into racing says the same thing they are saying. Get a built car as your first car. I didn't and pretty much derailed my initial racing efforts trying to figure out the build and guess what...I never really made it to the track. For a whole year and then some until I got fed up, got rid of the car....and bought a built car. Quote
vansprinkle Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 as a guy who is currently building his car, I can agree that you should try and find a built car. you can even find a good shell with the safety equipment and no engine or suspension. this would be a good option if you are 100% hell bound on building it yourself. it would save you a lot of time and most importantly a lot of money. here in Texas, we have a few guys running cars that are H2 eligible. however, the HC Toyo contingency is crap, so people here run H2 legal cars in PTB/C. Hoosier's contingency is a ton better. I am buidling a H2/PTC 4th gen Prelude. After a year, I am getting somewhat close, but still have a lot of small things to get sorted out before I could be competitive. With that said, I have been able to get out to the track all throughout the build with the car. I just plan accordingly and do work on the car between events. Quote
mikeski38 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I have a front running H2 del sol for sale, $7500, turn key ready! It has won 3 of 4 H2 races this year, and got 2nd in the other. It is a sweet car, know around here as the green goblin. I actually almost sold it to a texas guy this winter, but it got really complicated so I backed out. But it is still for sale. Quote
