Clutch Question....

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 85 1/2 944 with an 87 engine in it that needs a clutch... the throwout bearing is bad. so instead of rebuilding or replacing the bearing id rather just buy an Exedy Clutch kit since NASA members get a discount....

What should I put in there so it remains "Spec" ???? stage 1?? stage 2??? stage 3??? does it matter????

13.1 Clutch

Any clutch disc may be used. The pressure plate and flywheel must be OEM or exact equivalent of no less weight for particular model of car.

I am not sure what is involved with their clutches. We use stock sachs clutches. I have reused pressure plates and just put in a disc. I would expect 5+ years of racing on a stock sachs spring centered disc.

I replaced mine recently, I just went with the Sachs kit that Paragon sells, came with everything I needed.

Chris, just replace it with a stock, oem Sachs clutch. I bought one off of eBay brand new for less than $500 and it will be more than sufficient for what we use them for.

I checked about a year ago and at that point exedy didnt make a clutch for our cars, not sure if thats changed since then.

Gripforce clutches is the e-bay seller that I got my Sach's kit from for $ 380. I have bought kits for other cars from them and they are a great vendor.

I've got a Sachs clutch in my '84 that I bought on ebay, as well. I did a lot of looking before buying a clutch when I discovered that mine had to have one, and the ~$400 Sachs kit was the best deal around. I'm very, very thankful that the awful OE rubber centered design is no longer available. I might even have done a little dance when I found out, or at least I was dancing in my head.
