Thanks for your help. I highly recomend you get a strong harness bar or better yet a roll bar in the rear half of thew car. Either way, the belts need to be mounted to the crossbar, this will keep the length short and keep them from stretching too much in an accident. I would mount the lap and submarine mounts through the floor with heavy reinforcement 1/8" plates on the other side, if you can afford it, have the plates welded to the floor. Quote
Members Marcel D. Posted April 19, 2009 Author Members Posted April 19, 2009 tnx, I already have an autopower rollcage and the shoulder belts I loop them around the rear bar behind the seat but the lap belts and the sub belt is the one I'm having problems to decide where. Do you have an idea of how big the plates have to be or just plate the hole rear for support. Welding is not a problem. Quote

These pics are from a buddy of mine, he used 3"x3" 1/8" plates, he has a similar car to mine (I'm planning the same setup on my car). The welding looks crappy because he did it himself, but it does the job! Quote
Members Marcel D. Posted April 19, 2009 Author Members Posted April 19, 2009 nice, do you know if he sandwitch the sheet metal or only used the bottom plates? Quote

heel_touge Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 on my DC2 i have the left side lap belt bolted to the OEM bolt position by the floor. The right side is mounted in the same fashion above to the the exhaust tunnel. I just measured the distance from the back seat bench to the OEM bolt location then drilled the same distance down on the tunnel for the right lap belt. The crotch strap point was decided after putting the seat in and marking it with a sharpie. You want your crotch strap to be as vertical as possible. Quote
Members Marcel D. Posted April 19, 2009 Author Members Posted April 19, 2009 thanks for the input, I have found so many diferent ways to mount this harness that I really want to hear from the guys that really use them instead of the diagrams in websites. My only concern would be with tec inspection since this is the first time for the ek and I'm going to try to get its log book. Quote
Izzy's Cages Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Every manufacturer has slightly different requirements as far as angles, widths apart etc. Go by what the manufacturer wants, not what some random people do. Generally, you want the sub strap slightly behind vertical (10-15 deg), shoulders about 0-20 off of the shoulder and subs about 45-60 degrees about 17" apart. Large enough backing pads to actually do some load spreading. The plates above are decent sized. The bird poop is a little overkill though . A couple of good tacks is all that's necessary and are really only there to hold them in position. Quote
Members Marcel D. Posted April 20, 2009 Author Members Posted April 20, 2009 thank you scott, so the sub I can just mark it straight down from the hole and then go back about 10-15 and the lap about hip level or a little more ? Quote
