D Algozine Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 My opinion: Pick one spec tire for the Nationals. Too much time, money, effert, and travel to have any inconsistantsies. It also eliminates the second guessing, and unneeded discussions and debate about who was on which tire. Just make it the same for everyone. Ideally, sooner then later, I'd like to see something official indicating which tire or tires will be legal for nationals. Even if there are no changes to the current tire rules. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who needs to make a decission about attending Nationals. Quote
stevepoe Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Dave, I doubt they change this again after changing it already . looks like you have a choice. RICHMOND, CA (Apr 01, 2009) — The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) announced today that rules in all spec tire classes will be changed effective immediately to allow the use of the both the Toyo R888 or the Toyo Proxes RA-1 until the end of the 2009 season. This change is being made in partnership with Toyo to better allow racers to use up remaining RA-1's they had on hand and ease the transition to the new R888 without racers having to replace tires before the end of their useful life. Rule updates will be completed shortly and posted to the main www.nasaproracing.com site. Quote
ST#97 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 My understanding as well and I think someone who shall remain nameless has already stated "the winner will be on a well preserved set of RA1's..." Seems that someone DOES know the 888 is slower.... Quote
stevepoe Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 a well preserved set of RA1's hmmmm, I have a like new set of ra1's my basement. shaved, heat cycled and ready to go. maybe I will let these go to a high bidder Quote

D Algozine Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Problem for me: Spec tire class with two spec tires. Tires appear to have very different characteristics. One tire (RA-1) is no longer available from the manufacturer. Dillema: Work this summer, during race weekends, to try and figure out the new set up for the new tire on my car. Only to race against others who still have good RA-1's , which have years of proven set up info to work with. Throw in the last minute changes and the fustration begins to build. Quote

Red Tornado Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I will be trying the R888's. No use in holding on to the past. Quote
ST#97 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I will be trying the R888's. No use in holding on to the past. Prepare to fiddle with them. RA1's are winning every race it seems in our region...oh wait, that's just me! ....actually, I would have gone 5 wins for 5 green flags taken in the last two events had I remembered to put gas in the car for race 2 this past weekend! Let us know how you like them. Quote
bpanther Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 .......had I remembered to put gas in the car for race 2 this past weekend! Oh thank god I am not the only one You wouldn't believe how much ribbing I took last weekend for that one. Quote

Oh thank god I am not the only one You wouldn't believe how much ribbing I took last weekend for that one. Yeah, I got sidetracked helping Patterson bleed his brakes and totally forgot to fill the car. Last time he gets help! Well, I never ran out of gas...I was doing most of the track in 5th gear and then 6th on the main straight. Was fighting for second place the first couple of laps as the field was inverted and the guage was just dropping too fast. I came into the pits as the white flag came out. I put 15 gallons in the car and if you figure in the additional 48oz of fuel additive, there was probably LESS than 1/2 gallon in the tank...but it never stumbled!!! regardless, it would have not made weight in post race tech that low but nice to know that when the needle is two full widths below the E mark, it will still run!
