Prior wording: 49) OEM ECU/PCM reprogramming or chip (must use OEM ECU/PCM box/housing/hardware) Quote
Tirewarmer Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Greg, What exactly is considered "hardware" here? Does this reword basically mean that if you can reuse the factory ecu case and the wiring connector, that you can place a standalone in the case? Quote

Does this reword basically mean that if you can reuse the factory ecu case and the wiring connector, that you can place a standalone in the case? It absolutely definately without a doubt does NOT say you can do that. Ill quote it again for you: 49) OEM ECU/PCM reprogramming via reflashing or replacement/aftermarket ROM chips or simple ROM boards(The OEM ECU/PCM box/housing and hardware must be used). You have to use the factory ECU-everything. if you can do that and somehow fit a standalone ECU in the factory ECU box with the factory ECU board and wiring, then you would still need to take the 3 points for the standalone ECU. Crystal clear? Quote

Crystal clear? Clearly this change allows the replacement of the ROM (either replacing the chips or a board) so that means that this statement You have to use the factory ECU-everything is not accurate. Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted April 21, 2009 Author National Staff Posted April 21, 2009 You must use the OEM ECU itself. All processing must go through it. You cannot replace the motherboard. You cannot add RAM (random access memory). You cannot add piggyback boards except for ROM (read only memory) "daughter" boards. If a ROM daughterboard is used, then a jumper on the motherboard will likely need to be switched to allow the ECU to use the ROM from the daughter board instead of the original ROM chip. Quote
