Treefort Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Anyone have any installation tips on swapping out short 5 th gear? Are there any special tools required or special proceedures? The donor tranny is on the bench ready to remove 5 th. The tranny in the car has the spare tire area cut away for easy access. GB Quote
dmdirks Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I would start by downloading the manual for the transmission from here: http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; That's what I followed when I did mine a while back. Stand the trans up on the bellhousing, support the input shaft with a block of wood and put it in neutral. You'll need to replace the rubber end cap at the back of the trans when you're done. No special tools required, if I recall correctly. Quote
Cory M Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 lots of info and pictures here: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=19223&hilit=short+5th Quote
Tim Comeau Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I believe we've posted about that here? You'll need a gear puller to get the inner race of the nose cover off the main shaft. Keep that main shaft 5th gear stack all together, including the shift fork. Keep the shift fork (late alum or early steel) with the rolled pin that it came with. Once you get the nose cover and 5th gear pair loose, don't shift the tranny or you'll lose detents! Quote
