dmdirks Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 We just replaced the entire clutch assembly on Michelle's #77 car. Works fine, however the pedal has (and previosuly had) an odd feel to it. Upon engagement, toward the end of the pedal travel, the pedal has a noticeable increase in spring tension. What complicates things further is that the point of engagement is late in the pedal travel also. She has complained about how tricky it is to be smooth during heel & toe in her car, and after driving it this past weekend I agree! Any ideas? (And, yes, I've offered to swap cars... ) Quote
GaryM05 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I don’t know anything specific about this exact problem, but I’ve seen comments on Rennlist in the past that the firewall can crack above where the pedals are mounted, and that this can cause unusual changes in feel on the brake or clutch pedal as they move through their travel and the weakened firewall flexes somewhat from the leverage/force. Apparently it’s an easy fix to put some sort of brace on the engine side of the firewall, if this is what’s going on – a few more details and pictures here: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/480061-firewall-temp-fix-images.html I don’t know that this is necessarily at all related to the problem on Michelle’s car, but it might be worth a check. Good luck! Quote
dmdirks Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Thanks, Gary! I'll check it out. Anyone else have experience with this problem? Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 No suggestions other than to look at the area and particularly under the dash to watch the motion. You could have a mechanical binding someplace. Heck maybe an electrial cable is pushing into the springs under the dash. Quote
DWNSHFT Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The aircooled cars were susceptible to (extreme) wear in the pedal bushings. I don't know if that applies to 944s but it causes pedal binding in the aircooled cars. David Quote
Chuck T. Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Alex's car felt really odd . we bled the fluid for quite a while and it got much better. Quote
Tim Comeau Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I would think that bleeding would affect the pedal throughout its travel. Try looking under the dash to see if the pedal spring and rod are in their proper place and returning. The broken firewall idea is very valid. Quote
